The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has aparantly seen fit to block SFN from being viewed in Saudi Arabia and in honor of that I respectfully blow a raspberry in Kinf Faud's direction. Not that he'll see. We're blocked!

Too bad SFN is not 'Banned in Boston' also, more people would hear about it and want to view the site. But congratulations anyway.

I don't know whether to cheer or complain. Isn't Saudi Arabia supposed to be one of the more progressive middle-eastern monarchies? How did you find out anyway, @tomic? What other sites are blocked?

You mean the King Faud Dictatorship Corporation? Progressive??? The entire country is behind a firewall that blocks whatever the government wants and we made that list. I found out because I provided some Snitz code for download and someone from Saudi Arabia told me this site's blocked and becuase I have read about their firewall etc i know that extends to everyone in the country. I'm not sure who else they block but considering our content in some areas I am not at all surprised.

Saudi Arabia progressive? <snicker> They are terrified of new ideas. Anything that might upset the status quo is discouraged or outright banned. When I was there, I just couldn't freaking believe it. And entire culture where it seems that ignorance and stupidity are prized traits.

Sigh. I wish it took a trip abroad to experience that.

Remember this is the same country where school girls burned to death because they were not allowed out of their burning school. In their rush to not get burned they ran out without their veils. Since they were in obvious violation of Islamic law they were denied exit by their Allah-fearin' "rescuers."
"Progressive middle-eastern monarchies" isn't that an oxymoron?

Okay, okay. So maybe "progressive" isn't the correct word. But surely they are somewhat less, um, freedom-limited than their neighbors?

The saudi's are our trade partners. That pretty much sums up the cultural difference between them and their neighbors.

That is just too weird. I never did trust computers or governments. So that means that the govenment in the USA can also do and no doubt has done that? I would think.

yes and no. For blocking to work there has to be a single data pipeline out of the country. Even in S.A. those who know how can get to what they want.

One must be mindful that we are not talking about a Republic nor Democracy. We are talking about despotism. Despotism is not noted for freedoms nor religious tolerance.

So, I guess that means then that I can call King Faud a "Limp d-cked f--ked up f--k head who spends his time kissing the a-ses of the people who'd rather see girls burn to death than violate All-ackk's "holy law" "and he wouldn't be able to see it?
Good grief, they put up with people being burned to death for not wearing some bloody veil, yet this website is too "harmful" for their people to view?
If I could get in contact with "His majesty", I'd bloody well tell it to him directly.
PS. Normally, I'd leave out profanity, but that incident really p---ed me off.

I found out quite by accident when someone tried to download some custom Snitz Forums work I did from Saudi Arabia. The couldn't get to us so i had to email the material. What's even more interesting is that I found out the same way some US companies are blocking us. Other alternative religious sites get through. SFN does not get through

I went to Google (which is banned in China) and entered "banned websites." Of course there's a lot of info, but several pages in I found this: http://www.io.com/~vitale/ban/
I don't know anything about this source, but hope it helps. ============================================
