Its Saddam.

I've got proof, (but I won't show you any) and he is evil and dangerous.

Home grown serail killer if you ask me. I've never heard of organized terrorists using this type of M.O. The foriegn terrorists seem to prefer one big bang, and then head for the hills. But, who knows, they may have decided to play a new game.

As for the media, they seem to have this need to make even the most spectacular story even more spectacular. During that last hurricane, the local weather guys were downgrading the storm to a category 2 just before landfall, and the national media kept calling it a category 4. They went as far as insinuating the local meteorologists were dumb asses, and this storm was the biggest thing since Andrew. Twenty foot tidal surges--NOT! Well, that's our press. It's all about some family named Neilson, and, apparently, those Neilsons could care less about the truth.

Didn't know whether to put this here, or under "Day of Terror".
By now of course, we've all seen on the news, read in the newpapers, what have you, about the sniper who's going around the Washington DC area.
I was watching the news today, and along with the usual talking head anchors, they had an array of crime investigative experts and profilers. The anchors were really trying to tie the whole sniper bit to Al-Queda. All the experts seemed to agree: nope. But the anchors wouldn't let it go.
This certainly fits my definition of terrorism. People I know in that area are terrified about even leaving their houses. They're keeping their kids out of school (especially after today), and are reluctant to go to work.
I tend to lead toward the domestic lone nutter theory. He's causing terror, and enjoying the media attention.
Anyone here think it could be a foreign terrorist?

This guy isn't a terrorist. He's a sociopath.

Terrorists try to effect change. This guy is killing for the fun of it.

But give Bush enough time if his "my secret evidence (Magic 8-ball said it's true) says Saddam is a threat to the US" rhetoric fails, he'll be grasping at straws.

He already did since it's election time and they still haven't found Osama.

I can't help but notice that Lisa's OP says that a local news anchor (private citizen) is drawing the connection between Al Queda and this sniper, while all the experts are saying no. One assumes that these experts are the cops and the FBI both of which represent the govt.
Yet those responding to this thread is turning these facts 180 degrees.

On the news last night, they kept going on about how the sniper was using a high powered rifle, but then they said they recovered the bullet from the poor kid's body, but if it was a high powered rifle, then the bullet would have to be recovered from the brick wall or somewhere it bounced off to.

Uh oh, I'm ranting again...

Good point, Warrior.
I don't know anything about guns so can't say one way or the other if what you say or the news says is true BUT, the point is we don't know all the facts, there is NOTHING we can do, and as Tim said it's the media who is trying to get rattings for commerical reasons, if I understood him correctly.
That's why I don't listen to the news, each station has different 'facts' as one turns the channel. And the real facts aren't in yet. They'll catch him when they catch him, who ever it is. Speculating doesn't help. The funny thing is if/when they do get him/them, then people will give a big sigh and think they are safe again!

BTW, if anyone does know who's shooting, please send him here, I know a couple of people I'd like to give him the address.

The firearm is supposedly a .22 caliber, and these are favored by sharpshooters because:

1) They're quiet. .22s make very little noise.

2) No kick. I've fired a .22 cal rifle a couple of times. I've had more of a kick from a newborn.

3) Accuracy. With the lack of kick, .22s are quite accurate, and firing them is no problem at all.

One thing a .22 does lack: RANGE. This guy is very sneaky or very skilled to pull off what he/she has already done.

You are mistaken Rodney. This is no .22.
"He" is using a high powered rifle (see today's NYT) at a great distance. That's why the noise isn't very loud at the target site , why no body sees him doing it, why the slugs are staying in the bodies, and why the shots are so deadly.
It is very hard to do enough damage with a .22 to kill someone, and as you pointed out-you have to get real close. This guy is using a scope and setting up victims in the open in areas where they have to stand still, and he is damned good with his piece. Hopefully he will brag to someone about what he is doing, or he might be impossible to catch.

As I'm sure everyone here knows by now, there was another death yesterday.
Just some random thoughts I had last night whilst somewhat in the cups.
The area in and around the nation's capitol is pretty much paralized. People are afraid to pump gas for gawd's sake. Schools are in lockdown, no outside or after school activities.
Could martial law be declared for the area?
I don't know if this will turn out to be domestic/international terrorism, or nutter with a gun and good aim. Still, if the objective is to cause havoc in our capitol, it's been damned effective.

The scary thought, was I was just in Fredricksbourg and DC, on vacation with my family. I actually filled up at that gas station. This person seems like a sadist, and he would probabaly be one of those people who are severely mentally disturbed, but you wouldn't be able to tell it on the outside. He seems like a calculating and patient one, not a person who gets fed up and just decides to go out in a large mall while taking people with him.

I was thinking the same thing Snake

In all seriousness, I am a bit dismayed that no one has been able to catch this person after 10 shootings. What the hell is going on over there. That's it...we need cameras on every street corner like they have in London.

Well, I wasn't trying to be all that funny. I am very serious, there are a few people I wish he or anyone else so inclined, would eliminate. Should I lie and say there's no one on earth I hate?

Why is everyone so upset by what's going on over there when dozens of people die everyday, in violent situations? You think it will stop when they catch that one person?
The police, FBI, etc., are doing what they can so lighten up, who ever it was who said we can't joke about it, there's nothing much anyone can do so why be so up tight?

Sorry Deb but cameras, PLEASE! And certainly not for THAT sniper. Do you think from a street corner a camera would pick up a person hiding in a bush or pointing a gun out of a car window?
There's another folder on this site, I believe where the subject of cameras has already been debated, should we switch this part over there?

Well, looks like I'm eating crow.

"CAW!"

Hush you.

Thanks for setting me straight, Slater. Hate it when that happens. I heard accounts saying that it was a .22. But then, I've also seen what .22 glaser safety rounds can do. Again, thanks for clearing that up.

There is said to be a passenger with him. They may be in cahoots, too.
