Just what we needed, a Congressional edict telling us that even government officials can engage in petulant quote mining in order to reinforce their ideas that the establishment clause doesn't apply to them because they're right. Ugh.

If the link doesn't work, go here and enter S2690 into the bill number search engine.

What ever happened to 'E pluribus unum'?

Isn't it funny how they take the original words and substitute them with words that divide us...

(b) CODIFICATION- In codifying this subsection, the Office of the Law Revision Counsel shall make no change in section 302, title 36, United States Code, but shall show in the historical and statutory notes that the 107th Congress reaffirmed the exact language that has appeared in the Motto for decades.

Ok, so I'm not a big guru on Congress, but what made this amendment come up? Was it pressured, or something else?

I believe this bill is the fruit of the hyperreacitve God & Patriotism movement that invaded Congress immediately after the 9th Circuit pledge ruling. The funny thing is the bill really carries no force of law; it's just a big pious self-pat-on-the-back from a bunch of ass-kissers who really should (and probably do) know better.

I do hope that nobody thought it would be any, other way. After all, to be against "Under God" would be political .

No suprises from Congress; no original thought (which would be a HUGE suprise!). This whole thing is nothing but a ploy to look good to Christian voters. Happens every day, I suspect.

Sad.

Don't know how true it is, but the word I get is that Saddam Hussein is using the word "Allah" a lot more to keep the support of the religious.

I don't know which is worse, being religious, or pretending to be religious for political reasons. Is there a difference?

I wouldn't put it past Saddam. He needs support and he's not exactly revered by the Shiites and Kurds.

Bush needs it too. He isn't exactly revered by a significant number of Americans.

Ah, Atomic....You, obviously, haven't visited white, working class Louisiana lately.

I was just looking through the event calendar and came across a link to the November 2nd Godless Americans March on Washington. I was reading through it came across:

quote:
* Atheist physician and attorney Michael Newdow drew roaring applause in recognition of his fight to have the words "under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. Newdow attempted to draw a comparison between religious faith and his own atheistic philosophy, saying that both deserved equal treatment under the law. Newdow later led the crowd in a recitation of the "Godless Pledge," much to the delight of those clustered around the stage.

Cheers go out to those who made their voices heard on that day.

I know how it is in some parts of the country but, despite how the election came out recently, significant numbers are not fond of Bush. There may not be many in Louisiana, but there are plenty in other locations.

I don't know about the U.S., but many Canadians are not fond of bush, and he isn't even our president. Cudos to Francoise Ducros (Aid to the Prime Minister of Canada) for calling Bush a moron.

Hell we even have local bands up here that have written songs taking shots at Bush and the Gov't.

When will the hypocrisy end? I smell what they are cooking, and it is a bunch of BS I'd just as soon not touch, thank you very much.
