...To coin a phrase. I saw his press conference at lunch with his clever little films of Iraqi radar trucks parking near buildings that we are assured are not military institutions. Anyway, Rummy says something like, "It is not up to the UN to prove that Iraq has weapons of mass distruction, it is up to Iraq to prove they don't have WMD." I ask you, is that not a euphemism for, "We're going to attack this guy one way or another"?
Rumsfeld: Prove to us that you don't have WMD, Saddam!
Saddam: OK, you can look anywhere you want.
R: Not good enough. You could be hiding nukes where we haven't looked! Attack!!

Don't know how true it is, but I keep hearing that Richard Perle has already said that it didn't matter what the inspectors found, the U.S. was going to attack.
This goes along with what the Bush and Clinton administrations have said all along. Regime change was the only thing they ever wanted. They never cared about inspections or "weapons of mass destruction." |

Considering how the President said yesterday that the inspections were not going well for no reason whatsoever and comments like that from Rumsfeld it's not hard to imagine that anything at all will be a reason to invade. Even I could be behind invasion if there was an actual reason but because of statements like these I would doubt anything coming from them. They have blown it in my mind with dishonesty like this.

I've said it once here before, and I know I'm not the first or only one who thinks this:
George Bush and John Ashcroft are fucking psychopaths, completely certifiable. I can't think of anyone else who are so clueless to what their jobs and the Constitution are supposed to be. Bush and Asscroft think that their offices make America(and the world) their sandbox to do whatever they want, push whatever beliefs they want.
Just like a good portion of Xtians in this country who believe that the 1st amendment means freedom of their Xtian religion(including GW and Asscroft.) I need to find who said this(help me out if you know) but it was some prominent xtian in reference to prayer in school, and shows this very thought process:
"1st amendment means freedom of religion, not from religion."
These people are the ones who really don't deserve the rights afforded by the Constitution, because they don't even comprehend what those rights mean.

Joe Liberman said it, if I'm not mistaken.

Actually, Lieberman is as gung ho on invading Iraq as the Bush Administration and he has repeated and helped push the lies told by the administration when he should damn well know the truth or else quit as Senator because he's too incompetent to serve.

Whoever made the quote was referring, I think, not to the place itself but the situation. If you recall Richard Nixon won the '68 election pledging to end the war which was already several years old but oddly enough, by the time he resigned we were celebrating almost 15 years of Vietnamese war. Since this sort of war seems to be a Republican specialty I recommend buy stock in body bag companies. We didn't build all those bases over there for just removing Saddam.

I figured as much the very moment Dubya turned his attention to Iraq.
He wants to finish his daddy's war, and won't allow something as minor as the UN get in the way of it. The Supreme Court made the mistake of putting a spoiled brat on the proverbial throne, and now so many will suffer the consequences. Damnit..and what is worse is that almost no one has the guts to oppose him. |
