I once posted a topic about Skeptics and Dating. I thought it might be good to revive it under a new guise. So without further ado:
Describe your experiences, as skeptics and freethinkers, in the land of the long pick-up line (Huh?). If they are anything like mine, there will be a lot to talk about.
E.G. : Me: "I'm a skeptical agnostic", Her: "Oh wow, that sounds intense...what's your star sign?" Me: "I don't believe in that sort of thing" Her: "Yeah..a lot of people are not open-minded enough" Me: "I thought being open-minded meant that you critically evaluate your own beliefs" Her: "Why be critical..that's so negative" Me: "Pass us another beer will you barman.."

A skeptic should see the equivocation on the words "critically" and "critical." |

Yeah, okay..I know, that's sort of the point.
Someone once said that you should keep an open mind, but not so open to let your brain fall out. It seems that the dilemma I described earlier is of that kind. Surely there must be others who have experienced similar disappointments?
As an aside, there seems to be a especially rife belief in astrology nowadays...annoying, isn't it? If anybody has any good come-back lines to "what star sign are you?" please post them! |

Funny, it never was an issue. If my date believed green goddesses from Venus created human kind, then I didn't care. I wasn't looking for an intelligent conversation!
Then, I met my future bride, and I still don't care what she believes. I only care that we are still and will always be together. |

You know you have a problem when even a 3 legged half blind cockroach turns you down for a date, that's even after copius amounts of montary bribery and it still says no.

Date..Whats one of those? me..It means, I need to see the proof of any issued claim, and such a claim must pass a double blind experiment. Date .. Hey whey cool, you're kinky then? me.. |

Wasn't it Carl Sagan that said that? If you really want to meet people that are semi-rational, try gaming as an avenue. Most of them realize this stuff is make-believe. |

So how about this: My next big project is to create a dating service module to hook into this site. Some preliminary work is done but there is a lot yet to do. I think it could be a nice addition to SFN and the Skeptic/Freethinking community.

I don't know what that module thing is but I'm putting in my order now for the dating service. I want someone with: Long black hair. 5' 10 - 6'(taller ok) BTW, size counts Asian is best. Owning a Harley is better. And a real plus if his name is Terry. Will be waiting. Thank you.

Radar, I see that you fixed your profile. I had TD's same concerns. Your profile did say 13, though it now says 37.

Will that dating service be tolerant of alternate adult lifestyles? Those of us who aren't in typical relationships may feel persecuted. Isn't it all about inclusion?
Hey Snake...Your description fits my step brother to a tee, except for the name. Any reason you have a preference for a particular name...Don't worry, I'm always this nosey.

I hardly see any reason not to be tolerant unless we're talking NAMBLA style inclusion. That's about the only place we would have to draw the line for so many reasons.

Gees, I hope so @. I don't want a permanent relationship with just one person, I want to pick up where I left off 10 years ago. Meeting one guy after another. Shhhh, just don't let my 'room mate' find out. Or I'm If the name I'm looking for is a problem, it could be Mike or Tony! I'm really not that picky.
