I am a proud Canadian who is not proud of how our government has handled this war. Our government, with an idiot for a prime minister, is not speaking for the majority of Canadians. Most Canadians are ashamed that we are not side by side with our American brothers protecting the same values we both share. My grand father who was in ww2, in France, Germany, Russia is besides himself that all the bravery and honor shown by the Canadians in that war is being tarnished by the acts of a few.

The booing at the Montreal Canadiens game.....those idiots should all be shot.....they have also booed the Canadian nation anthem so we do know they are not all there.

If you look through the politics, and all the PC bullshit there is three ideoligies that are in competetion to rule the world. Capitalism, western european socialism, and islamic militant bullshit, it is time to pick one.......stop riding the fence.

If i were the supreme being, I wouldn't have messed around with butterflies and daffodils. I would have started with lasers 8 o'clock day one!

You mean people should be shot for expressing their opinions? Good thing you're not the PM, huh?

I'm not. This war is spectacularily useless, and will only result in more Middle East hostility against the Western world, which in case you didn't know includes us. The Canadian Army has no business going in Iraq.

F*** off. Booing the national anthems is a proud Quebecois tradition. And unless you're a complete psychotic, you should know better than to joke about shooting people.

I'm not a Canuk, but I've spent a fair amount of time in your beautiful land. For some reason, I especally like Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. I also have occasionally enjoyed Montreal, capital of the country of Quebec, eh.

Brothers, I fear that this militaty adventure of ours will have repercussions lasting far beyond our lifetimes, for both mine and yours. Bush has indeed changed the world. I do not think it's a change for the better.

Booing national anthems is acceptable in a democracy. I wish they would just shoot people that say you can't criticize in any way you see fit. Shoot them all so we can at last have a decent democracy!

So some people figure it is alright to boo national anthems.
(Oh I forgot we have a democracy and people can express how they feel anyway they see fit.) Why doesn't someone burn the American flag at center ice next time? Or light up a Bush effigy? Is that going too far....if so why? Grow up.

And for you peace activists....why do you protest so vehemently only in nations that welcome different views as a way of life? Saddam is responsible directly or indirectly for over a million deaths. That doesnt sound very peaceful. It is easier and safer to protest against America. Where were all the peaceniks when Saddam was killing his own people? They want to protest but dont want to get their hands dirty.....i call that a fad cause. Why dont you go to Iraq where your views wont be met with such tolerance. You will definitely meet some real hateful people to share your freedom of speech.

Speaking as one who's hands have been dirty, I feel I've earned the right to say any damned thing I please.

Now, I will agree that the best thing Saddam can do is the Mussolini Swing, however, he has not attacked anyone in the last, 12 years and has never attacked either the US nor Canada. What we have done is mounted an unprovoked invasion of a sovergn nation.

The thing about it is that all we had to do is wait. But Bush wanted this war, the planning of which was done well before his illegitiment ass was appointed. And now, he badly needs it to take attention away from his disasterous economic policies and his failure to deal with Al Q'ada.

Although I'd not do it, booing national anthems doesn't bother me in the least. It's only noise, after all. And it's citizens excersizing their right to dissent. As for an effergy Bush burning, hell, I'll buy the gas.

Franc, tell me you are not trying to defend this man...

-Frontpage magazine.com- Like other dictators who wrote bloody chapters in 20th-century history, Mr. Hussein was primed for violence by early childhood. Born into the murderous clan culture of a village that lived off piracy on the Tigris River, he was harshly beaten by a brutal stepfather. In 1959, at age 22, he made his start in politics as one of the gunmen who botched an attempt to assassinate Iraq's first military ruler, Abdel Karim Kassem.

Since then, Mr. Hussein's has been a tale of terror that scholars have compared to that of Stalin, whom the Iraqi leader is said to revere, even if his own brutalities have played out on a small scale. Stalin killed 20 million of his own people, historians have concluded. Even on a proportional basis, his crimes far surpass Mr. Hussein's, but figures of a million dead Iraqis, in war and through terror, may not be far from the mark, in a country of 22 million people.

Great guy.

Filthy, would it be alright to burn your flag to exercise your right to dissent? Or how about to drop grenades on your fellow country men? Was that guy exercising his right to dissent?

Why don't you go to the front line and join in the "fun".

This war isn't about Saddam's atrocities to his people and liberating them as much as the chicken hawks want you to believe. There are pro's and con's to this war, but the con's by far outweigh the pro's, and every soldier that dies or is wounded gives more weight the reason not to be there.

I wish i could....my country decided to sit this one out.

Nobody wants war, sometimes it is necessary. I believe this time it is necessary. It is either go in now, or go in later. Saddam had 12 years of screwing around with the UN security counsel. Recalling that in its resolution 687 (1991) the council declared that a ceasefire would be based on acceptance by Iraq of the provisions of that resolution, including the obligations on Iraq contained therein

Iraq choose to disregard the provisions of that resolution, so the ceasefire was lifted. By not adhereing to the UN, Iraq choose this war not America. Those banned weapons that Iraq is lobbing into Kuwait is further evidence they should be there.

Flag burning didn't bother me during 'Nam and it doesn't bother me now, though again, I wouldn't do it. I served what it represents for too many years. As for the asshole who fragged those guys, that's a different deal. Nobody gets hurt dissenting, usually anyway. This guy wasn't dissenting; rather he was attacking, with deadly force, his commanders. He violated the oath he took when he entered the service. Therefore, he is a traitor as well as a murderer. I'd like to see him hang and indeed, I'd be happy to tie the knot and do the drop. I know how. I'd give the bastard a short drop, too, and let him choke.

I think that if you don't like what your government is doing, it is your patriotic duty to say it right out loud. Flag burning and flaming effergies is a far cry from treason. Do ya see what I'm saying?

I don't know who originally put two and two together here, and came up with totally off the wall--I'm not even going to look! But, where in the hell does a line of reasonning like this come from?

I see what you are saying Filthy, and I agree with you....up to the flag burning. Say what you want about this administration, but to burn a flag cuts deeper. It attacks the whole history of the country, and everything many have died for. Very disrespectful.

Tim, to dissent means to differ in opinion, or to disagree. The Montreal Canadiens fans disagree with America's decision to go to war. To show their dissention they booed the national anthem.

The guy who threw grenades into fellow soldiers tents as they slept, was also expressing his difference of opinion.

This begs the question, Where does one draw the line with dissention?
Where does the dissenter become the traitor? In the case of the soldier, I believe it was well before he threw those grenades.

Filthy has already touched on this question.

I am not defending anyone, let alone Sadaam Hussein. I am blasting you for being in favour of an unjustified and thoughtless war. My dislike of Hussein does not make war any more justified. Learn to dissociate your emotions from reality, you obviously need it.
