I was really beginning to feel left out. I kept reading about all these people who some grifters in Nigeria offer great sums of money, but no Nigerian has offered any to me.

But finally, my presence and greed have been noticed and shown some appreciation.

Here's the lettet:

> Hello
> Dear Sir,
>
> With due respect, I write to you this proposal. I am Mr. James
Etiebet a
consultant to Mr. Gaspardo Alain, a French citizen, who lived
here in Nigeria.
>
> On the 1st of October 2002, Mr. Gaspardo Alain, his wife and
their three
children were involved in a car accident along Abuja-Kaduna
Highway, all
occupants of the vehicle unfortunately lost their lives as they
are on a weekend
outing to a nearby city.
>
> I contacted you based on trust to assist me in repatriating his
money and
property he left behind, before they get confiscated or declared
unserviceable
by the Finance Company where his huge deposit was lodged.
>
> Particularly, the deceased has an Amount of $18.9 million
dollars, after my
written notification about the death of the deceased to the
Finance Company they
have issued me a notice to provide the next of kin or have the
Funds confiscated
within the next 45 days.
>
> Since I have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives all
this while, that's
why I seek your consent to assert you as the next of kin of the
deceased, so
that the proceeds of this Amount valued at $18.9 million dollars
can be paid to
you as the bonafide approved Next of Kin by the Finance Company.
>
> If you agree we can discuss the percentage you will have as
compensation on
your involvement. I have all necessary documents that can be
used to back up the
facts and claim on the Fund Release.
>
> All I require is your honest, co-operation and Sincerity to
enable us see that
these funds are paid to you.
>
> I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate
arrangement That will
protect you from any breach of the law.
>
> Awaiting your response.
>
> I'm out of the City on a business trip and will be back as soon
as you confirm
your interest on this issue. I will notify you on the next step
as soon as we
agree on the sharing ratio as per percentage.

> Best regards,

And my response, useless as it is went thus:

Dear Mr. Etiebert,

How stupid do you think I am? I only regret that you are not
within arm's reach of me, you thieving, little son-of-a-bitch.

Please note raised middle finger.

contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for
him the spinal cord would suffice."

I usually tell them to get fucked, then use the Rules Wizard in Outlook to put any future e-mails straight into my Deleted Itmes folder.

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

I heard of someone who played along with one of these scams, to the point where they were at an airport somewhere waiting for him to show up with a suitcase full of money...

I don't know if it's the same guy, but a Swedish guy (I think) did go very far playing along as an Icelandic fisherman. It was documented on his website, all correspondance. After a while he started to add give away clues in swedish masquerading as Icelandic. It was fun reading for a while, but finally I got bored so I didn't finished reading all letters. But I wouldn't be surprised if this was the guy.

Don't remember the URL, but then, if you don't read swedish, you won't have as much fun anyway.
