I put this in politics because it looks like religion is no longer involved except on the side; rather like a nice piece of limburger to enhance the taste of a choice cut of filet de opossum (actually, 'possum ain't half bad and I love limburger cheese. I also love the way this story's going down).

Culled from my local Atheist list. Enjoy!
From THE APOTHEOSIS OF ST. ROY THE ARROGANT
1:1 And lo, it came to pass in those days that in the land of Alabama, south of the Mason-Dixon line and just over the hill from the yum-yum tree, there rose a mightly warrior of our Lord. 1:2 Roy Moore was he called, and unto him was given the name of Roy, for his parents liked not the names Murray or Phil. 1:3 And it came to pass that Roy didst come into great power in this land, for unto him was given the leadership of the highest court of all Alabama. 1:4 Thou hast unto you a great responsibility, sayeth the rulers of this great land of Alabama, for we are but part of a much greater land called America. Great is this mighty land, for not only doth it have many more yum-yum trees than our fine and beauteous Alabama, it hath also a fair and just Constitution. 1:5 Constitution? What's that? asketh Roy, for he was sore confused. 1:6 It is none less than the laws of all America, sayeth the rulers of this great land of Alabama, promising equality to all, and preferential treatment for none, regardless of race, sex, or religion. 1:7 Not even religion? asketh Roy. 1:8 Nope, sayeth the leaders. 1:9 And Roy was sore aggrieved, for he did believe it was his God-given mandate to use his great governmental power to compel all those under his sway to adhere to the worship of the Lord. I'll show them, Roy didst say unto himself, such was the depth of his indignation. 1:10 And thus Roy didst post the Commandments of the Lord above his bench, and those who understood the words of the Constitution were sore afflicted. 1:11 They ain't seen nothin' yet, Roy didst think to himself. And it came to pass that, under the cover of darkness, Roy and many cohorts also enamored of the Lord stole into the judicial building and placed a monument to the Commandments weighing many tons smack dab in the middle of the floor. 1:12 And when this perfidy was revealed, many across the great land of America who value the separation of church and state didst go apeshit, and phone their lawyers. 1:13 And it came to pass that Roy was commanded to remove this monument. Take down this monument! he was commanded. 1:14 I shall defy you, sayeth Roy. I answer not to your laws, but to our Lord. 1:15 Take down this monument! commanded the appellate courts. 1:16 Bite me, sayeth Roy. 1:17 But the courts would not relent, and nor would Roy, and a great battle ensued, and there was a wailing and gnashing of teeth. For Roy had spoken, that he was above the Constitution, above the laws of America, and should he be crucified upon the cross as was our blessed Jesus, then all the better for him, as he would ascend unto Heaven a marytr for the Lord, and perhaps even someday have a holiday named after him and everything. For when one obeyeth the Lord, one needeth answer only to the Lord, and fie! upon these foolish laws of men. Amen. ============= To be continued....

Oh, about the monument in the Alabama Judicial Building? I think it's time to call for the Holy Hand Grenade! |

As it happens, one skill I aquired, and was quite good at, in the military was demolitions.

Ok..........different slant. I can see the monument being moved because 'why can't every religion put their crap all over government buildings.' I can see this.
But why stop there?
Change the Declaration of Independence, there is some God talk in there. Might affend. Change the money......people around the civil war time liked the phrase 'In God we Trust' that has got to go. Change the national anthem........Star spangled banner, last few verses (extended version)...."God Bless America"---self evident. Change the pledge of allegiance...under who? that's out. and so on...... So where does one stop, and who picks and who chooses, what to throw out of American history? |

The god thingy should had never been put in our country's pledge back in the 50's, along with the "In god We Trust". Commie cold war and McCarthyism hysteria was rampant, - early fifties. Change it back to what it was, "One Nation, Indivisible", and the motto back to "E Pluribus Unum" (One From Many). Everyone is included then.
The "In #$% We Trust" has come and gone from monies beginning around the Civil War. My guess is the courts will decide. The national motto is outright discriminating, infers second class citizenship of any who differ.
Here in Texas, our fundie govenor signed legislation requiring all public school student to say the pledge of allegience to the U.S. flag, say the ????Texas pledge of allegience????, and have a minute of silence each day. Problems, problems, problems. Lawsuits are being prepared.
Who/what fuckin' god(s) are we talking about, anyway?

Hey don't get me wrong, we have similiar issues to solve ourselves. For instance there was a Christmas tree set up in parliment and some group got upset, so they kept the tree and renamed it the friendship, or multi-cultural tree, or some damn thing. PC gone retarded.
OH and Dave, Igloos? Yeah if you're lucky..........not everyone's loaded. |

It is now just a bit after midnight. I have checked the news and as far as I can decern, the Rock of Gibber remains in the good judge's place of business.
YOU GO, ROY!!! Hang in there, bro! Don't let the bastards grind you down!
With any luck at all, this will keep us amused for weeks.

I just hate to see this fuel the fire of the fanatical fundies, which it is already doing. Worse case scenario down the road would be a constitutional amendment weakening church/state separation. Our fundie president, Mr. Potatohead, who keeps a dashboard jesus bobbing on Air Force One, will get the ball rolling.
Remember the fifties and Congress shoving god down our throats, -- we have it like a plague on our motto, pledge, monies. Kids forced to say they believe in some god. What next?
Intelligent Design is trying to molest our children at school. Gaack! - we're slowing going to turn into a nation of drooling, foot-draggin' jeezus zombie zipperheads! Gotta fight them off at the pass. |

I see this fiasco in Alabama shaping up into a real religious war. Those fundies don't give a **** about the rule of law, and they will not take no for an answer. The other eight judges that ruled against Moore will be in grave danger for the next several months, at least, as will the attorney general of Al. But at least the thing will be covered up, and subsequently moved somewhere else. Maybe Moore could put "Roy's Rock" on his lawn and make a fountain out of it; that's about all it's good for! |

Religious war may be right, get a load of how these clowns are bitching about it...

or see the the stuff on this post, (and on the thread before this post!) http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1117203#post1117203
quote: Looks like Alabama will be paying penalties for some time. Guess I can vote NO on the Increase in Property Tax Agenda and send mine to Judge Moore. Don't you know this burns the political figures and judges up??? This is really going to get interesting. As someone posted earlier, this is a turning point for America and for Christians to really take a stand for their beliefs. Else, they will be taken away by the legal system just like in times past. (Ex Prayer In School)
What shit. Only MANDATORY prayer was taken out. Not voluntary prayer! Why the hell do they refuse to see the distinction??
This is from the first post on the above thread: (note how favorably the others there comment on this statement!)
quote: In a speech on Thursday, Moore argued that blind obedience to "this so-called rule of law" would have allowed slavery to continue.
Speaking on NBC's Today show Friday morning, Justice Moore said he does believe in the justice system and he does believe people should obey the higher court -- "except when that higher court is not going by law. That makes them lawless. And they're not following the rule of the law. The law is, clearly, is the Constitution of the United States, the First Amendment, and the Preamble; and the Constitution of Alabama, both of which acknowledge God.
"We're in a situation in this country where judges are telling us what to think and who to believe in and they simply can't do that," he said.
"The judicial system in America has trampled true justice and nullified genuine liberty," Benham agreed.
Benham said federal judge Myron Thompson "is in contempt of the court which is truly supreme -- the Court of Almighty God."
In his statement, Benham criticized the U.S Supreme Court and other federal courts for trying to "erase the name of Jesus from the hearts of our children, our schools our work places, and the public square."
He said believers in Jesus Christ "will resist them."
Hats off to "Heracles" though, http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?postid=1117322#post1117322 He brings some common sense there.
I'd like to post, but as you may remember, I got banned over a year ago! (See my thread: "If I can't post there, I'll post here") |
