Nahhh. Do fundies ever pass up an opportunity to be righteous-er-than-thou?

I work on Christmas day, double time and a half - 12 hour shift.

Been doing it for 5 years now. Avoid embarrassing family situations.

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

We've had that thread before, I think, if you want to explore that you might do a search.
It was by Dr Shari over in Polls---called "Christmas: Do you celebrate?" No one talked about the Fundamentalist link, though. What do they complain about, Vegeta?

I, for one, hide and stay really low on Halloween.

I always thought that the token food and gifts for the sprites/faries/elves was to brighten their mood so that might be helpful. I never heard that sans the token nice-things that they might ever do harm.

It would seem to me that the "good guys" would be nearly incapable of doing harm just for reason of spite; and, maybe, they would be just plain INCAPABLE of doing harm.

Wherever did you get the idea that the food is for good guys? Read some Irish faerie tales; they illustrate sprites who are entirely self-interested. They prank those who displease them, and they help those who please them.

Maybe you didn't notice that it is on All Hallows' Eve, not All Saints' Day, that food is put out.

I don't understand? Why should they care?
If you are asking do any of us celebrate it, then the answer is yes.
I do because my birthday is just at that time. Not on the 25th but within a few days. So I rather like that everyone puts up colored lights and sings songs for me.
Even if it wasn't MY birthday I'd still give gifts and put up a tree. It's fun. And the gifts or cards are for reconizing and in some way paying back the kindness of others from durning the year. In Thailand they give baskets of fruit on and around January 1. So the 25th or whatever day is chosen, it's nice to have a time to acknowledge friendships and remember people who you don't always get a chance to be with.

They care because they are responsible for your actions, get it?

The fundamentalist evangelicals believe that their purpose in life is proselytization of every human being.

The arrogance of that seems right to them because they are the chosen.

Truth is the myth we agree to tell to children.

Thanks, Snake. I'll send a non-thank you card for the non-invitation.

Oh, Yes, right, right! I'd forgotten. Years ago I read a book that explains that whole premise.
I forgot that's the reason, we have to fight against them. Thanks for the reminder.
Why can't people be more Buddhist and leave everyone to their own ideas?

One way or the other you must come visit sometime.
I'll have a 3 day party around that time of year and thems that wants to belive it's for xmas can do so and those who want to ring in the new year can choose that. (Oh, but no present for you......you can non-thank me for that.) Wad'ya say about that?
Or is the Gregorian calender too much to think about?
BTW, have you thought of becoming a Taoist? They don't celebrate holidays.

If I ever make it out to see you, I will celebrate seeing you and not some made up Holy Day. How's that?

Yes, I have looked into Taoism and Zen, although I can't say that I know a lot about either, I do appreciate much of what they seem to promote. I know some local Buddhists and have been very tempted to go to the local Zen Sangha, but just don't have the guts yet.

That's very sweet of you. You've got a deal.

Not to be picky with my Buddhists brothers but Zen is not the fundamentalist, or it you prefer....the true teachings of The Buddha. Just as one shouldn't confused the philosophy of the Tao with the later religious aspects of it. Both the Tao and Buddhism added mysticism years latter, which we can't accept. The original concepts are the ones to study and have no suppernatural being connected to them. Just be open minded and ask questions. If they get touchy or pushy about it then they are not good Buddhists, go find someone who has a better understanding of it.

"Fundies" is short for fundamentalist, as in religious fundamentalist. Foremost Christian Fundamentalist, since they are usually either trying to convert you, or condemning you as a heathen.
I suppose this is very generalized and stereotypical.
Anyway, we use it as a reference to Christians that has abandoned their god-given power of reason, and believe such nonsense like God created the world 6000 years ago, that there was a worldwide flood where all dinosaurs died and only Noah and his family survived, and other stories of the Bible.

People can have celebrations whenever they like, but if they don't celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus Christ they will go to hell, simple as that.

Do you think you know the mind of God, that you can judge people as He will?
