Here's another one that I don't know whether to put in politics or religion. That seems to be happening a whole lot lately!

Anyway, this article at DailyMoron caught my attention: Bishops Consider Sanctions for Politicians

quote:
The nation's Roman Catholic bishops said Monday they are considering whether to recommend sanctions for Catholic politiciains who favor policy contrary to church teaching on abortion and other issues.

This just burns me up! How dare they try to dictate public policy through punishment of elected officials? They are "public servants", they are not "Catholic servants"! I hope they get slapped down hard!

How can these politicians call themselves Catholics if they do not follow the teachings of the Catholic curch?

It does seem like the Church is trying to overreach its grasp, but they can excommunicate whomever they like, can't they?

The religion of a candidate has never entered into my decision on whether to vote for someone or not. If a politician is going to have his religious leaders dictate his public policy, then I would need to vote on people based on their religious affiliation. If the pope can tell Congressman how to vote, I do not want that man in office.

Maybe the Catholic ploticians are not 'good' Catholics. Maybe they vote based on the needs and desires of their constituents.

If I knew then what I know now then I would know more now than I know.
