Yes, I've read about that. But, in all fairness, if the stress of a mere movie would would give her a heart attack, she was about due for one, anyway. Nothing was said about her health prior to the movie, that I saw.
Also, from what I've read, various Evangelical, Pentacostal, et al churches pretty much bought out the first showings in order to inspire their congregations. Is this good? To further demonstrate the evil that we can so-readly inflict upon each other?
I don't think so. I think I'll shine this epic on.
We are talking about people claiming the movie will cause some kind of divine retribution, not people who ask questions or use logic.
I have a feeling it's supposed to inspire their congregations like "Die Ewige Jude" did for Nazis. |

I'm definitely going to see it. I love the works of Gibson, anyway...and this movie seems to be REALLY contraversial...which invokes my interest that much more;) Also, I have had a lot of friends already go to see it, and they say it is a really god show, so I figure why not? It's either that or sit at home and use telemarketers as my entertainment? |

I seldom go to movies. The movie sound tracks are most often set for people who are already deaf. Since I have no desire of joining them (in their deafness), I must stay away. I should pass out pamphlets instructing people on sign language so they will be prepared to communicate when that time comes...

I just saw it last night.
Left me speechless, and not because I came out thinking, "That's the greatest movie I've ever seen!", but instead because it left me stunned on account of the extreme violence--and that's unusual for me and my violence tolerance.
This movie crosses every line when it comes to violence and gore...but one has to understand (before labelling this movie the "Texas Jesus Massacre"), that whether or not Jesus was a fictional character as most of you would assume, these kinds of executions happened in the manner depicted quite often in those days.
So no matter what you believe, you will still leave the movie having learned a little history.
Not much more I can say...you have to see it to believe it. |

Went to the movies last night - let's see (sneak preview of "Hidalgo" or "The Passion...") No brainer: "Hidalgo" of course!
Its a mightly fine horse flick! And it even has some wisdom and social issues (of native Americans and Arab peoples) beautifully depicted. I recommend it.
I also think everyone should see "The Triplets of Belleville" instead of Mel's film.

Hidalgo is definitely worth seeing then? My funds are low right now, and the kid and I have thought about going to see this movie. If it's that good, then I can see spending the money. |

If you both like horses and beautiful cinematography - yes. The story is simple, but depth of the characters is gradually revealed. Don't expect non-stop action and special effects (like "The Mummy") though there is plenty of action. They also touch on the incident at Wounded Knee, and various culture clashes. There's also humor here and there. I wasn't bored nor felt that the filmmakers were condescending.
I also think "Hidalgo" and "The Triplets of Belleville" have more to offer viewers than watching a depiction of a man being hideously tortured for over an hour.

Considering that I begged for a horse growing up and my kid did too... That and she enjoyed the sweeping scenes in LOTR... She doesn't require non-stop action either. She didn't seem terribly bored by the end of LOTR - Return. She does wish they'd followed the book more closely on this though. In her opinion it was really seeing the hobbits grow up and join the rest of the world that was necessary to the end. But wasn't portrayed well at the end. Ok, she's a movie critic. |

<Giggle> I think I want to see the movie myself before I decide if I will accept "historically accurate". Maybe accurate regarding costumes and settings, torture and crucification-process and such. Still, if there really was a Jesus person, most of the storie about him is fiction just like James Bond. |

Mabuse,
Sorry I should have clarified...that's what I meant, historically accurate at least in the fact of how the Roman rule was and their methods of punishment, etc. |
