This may sound like a really stupid idea, Dr. Mabuse, since we know so little about 'macro-ecology' (the ecologies on our size-scale of life) but I can't help but think that rather than just studying this or that microbiological species it might pay to heavily fund ("jump start") a field of "Micro Ecology", much like the way Limnologists study the microscopic interactions in a pond or lake, as well as studying the bigger lifeforms.
