slater, I would say that even if protestants were kicked out (and slaughter also) by the king. They were easily kicked out because they were a minority. Even before we get ride of our king, protestant religion was not popular.

Then since we kicked out (or chop off, as you wish) our king some 200 years ago (as other european country did) it gives us alergic reactions when religion get out of the church. (As a example it always chocks me when an american politician refer to god in a speech. To me this is just inappropriate, even close to intolerance). That might explain why they did not came back.

You are right on the fact that having a protestant influence in country is favorable for FEBA Christians. But even in Britain where protestant represent a majority the FEBA Christians do not have has much importance (at least they are not as noisy) as in the states.

This applies to some mainstream religions also (catholicism)

I agree. However, most Catholics in modern industrialized countries do not hold the same view of abortion and birth control as the hierarchy. They don't take the Pope that seriously (spoken from experience). Unfortunately, most Catholics in 3rd world nations do take seriously the church's stand on these issues.

Greg.

Catholic school educated and indoctrinated, so I know about that too. Mom is a pre-Vatican II Catholic (tho she did like going from latin to english).

They oppose the concept of making birth control measures available to our young people - as the ready availablity will cause them to want and think about sex all the time.

I think I speak for a great portion of 'young people' when I say that BREATHING makes us want and think about sex all the time. That doesn't mean we should outlaw breathing, now does it? ( I realize this was not your opinion, Trish ) It also does not mean that thinking about/wanting is equal to promiscuity.

Hey who says you have to be young? My point was that this is *pro-life religious* reasoning against providing access to birth control.

I would have loved a year off. But then I would have been recalled after 4 months. There's just something about the military...

He's YOUR god, they're YOUR rules, YOU burn in hell!

How dare you lot kick about and despise a great National Hero like Cromwell? He killed a king, and forever ensured that freedom would at least be achievable by people, and that citizens could live without being subjects! I cannot believe that you are writing such terrible things about a man who was so humble that he refused the crown, and would only accept the title of Lord High Protector. If it had not been for Cromwell, there would not have been revolutions in France, the US or anywhere else. They would not have had his model to go on.

He had his faults, but he also had his virtues. Would you really want the US to still be ruled by a King based in England? Well then. He did something the US has never been able to do: kill a British king. Now if George III hadn't been mad...history would be very different.

Tea! I ask you! Phshaw!

Face it, Cromwell made you.

Myself I have the honor of being from County Cork. Our uninvited guest, Mr Cromwell, is still talked of there. The Drogheda massacre, the Wexford massacre, Cashel--nope we haven't forgotten old Oliver.
It's a wonder we let tourists in at all after he left.

National hero?
You mean an English national hero. That would figure.
