As I said on another thread I will start giving some insight of european misconceptions.

My first and favorit subject is Homeopathy. It is quite popular back there but I have no clue if you even have heard about it. I tried to find some web site about it in english but there are not so common.

Will give you an introduction to it.

To sum up the "scientific" principle beind it is just crazy and you just need basic highschool chimistery on concentration to calculate that the pills which are supposed to cure you contain only sugar.
The only way to explain that its have quite good results is the placebo effect and the quality of the relation between the "doctor" and patient.

This has a lot to say on homeopathy. Also

You'd think folks would apply a little common sense to the concept of homeopathy, and see for themselves it's bull.

Ahhhh...but Lisa, that would require the application of *critical thinking*...and we've already remarked often, in other places, how rarely that happens.

Critical thinking is cheaper. Ed and I were in a golf shop the other day, and you wouldn't believe the kind of crap they were selling. Magnetic bracelets and shoe insoles all over the place! Hmmm, I see an opportunity here. I'll get some grass from Pebble Beach, grind it up, mix with water, and dilute dilute dilute. Sell it for $50 an ounce - "Homeopathic Essence of Golf". While I'm at it, wonder if Tiger could spare a few drops of sweat?

Why even get the grass?

Afterall doesn't homeopathy dilute it down to the point at which there are no molecules of the substance present?

Radioactive GM Crops.

Slightly above background.

Safe to eat.

But no activist would dare rip it out.

As they think it gives them cancer.

Well, the adverts would have to include snazzy pictures of me in a lab coat out on the 18th collecting the stuff. Besides, it would be a good excuse to go to Pebble Beach. Who knows? I might bring in enough cash that Ed could afford to play a round or two. (He says one round costs about $250)

I had some homeopathic noni juice. The people selling the stuff even bragged about the purity of their noni over other noni juice products. Exactly as pure as the water they were using I guess.

At least, it was a liquid. Ever wonder how they get the memory of what ever medicine was diluted, to a point that less than a molecule is left in the water into pill form?

Well you could just go there wearing a lab coat and take some grass. That way people will be able to see the photo of you collecting grass and therefore think you are doing that. It really doesn't matter if your just going to through the grass away or put it back.

Very true. A nice shot of me looking at the grass, trying to find the blades that are most in tune with golf's greatest legends. And that way there's less of a chance I could mess up my manicure.
I still need an excuse to meet Tiger.

At our skeptics meeting tonight, one of our members discussed his serious illness and that he was going to take homeopathic medicines which were touted in Europe (but which had not been subjected to double-blind testing). What does one say to somebody who is dying? I did not have the heart to challenge any of it. Perhaps, for some people, hope is better than nothing. I simply kept silent. (According to him, medical doctors had given up on his cancer.)

Darn... Very nice guy... Only a kid...

ljbrs: Yeah. Only a few things I'd suggest, if you are close enough to the fellow to help him. First, make sure he doesn't abandon conventional medicines because pain management is very important in end-stage cancer. Second, be thankful he's experimenting with homeopathy and not some witch-doctor concoction that'll make him sicker. At least he'll be taking nice clean sugar pills and distilled water.
