"Bush's Wife Still Haunted by Death Crash Nightmare"
Presently available on newsstands, this story reviews material found in the DMN story documented above and an AP story on the same day, as well as a relevant interchange from a Barbara Wolters interview with Laura Bush on 20/20 the next day. A partial copy of the original Midland police report is included, along with photographs of the crash scene. Judy Dykes, a friend of Laura Bush who was in the passanger's seat at the time of the accident, was unnamed in the DMN story, but told the DMN reporter, "[The story] is not worth digging into.It was an accident, a horrible, horrible accident years ago, and it has no relevance." The GLOBE appears to believe relevance may possibly be found in its reporting of comments made by two unnamed members of Texas' law enforcement community. One wondered why no ticket was issued by the Midland police. The other wondered why no grand jury was convened by the City or County of Midland. --Politex, 8/7/00
OK. Is the GLOBE one of those papers like the Weekly World News or National Enquirer? As the appearance of alcohol is only rumored, it leaves that Mrs. Bush was involved in an accident while a minor (probably due to inexperienced driver error) in which a death occurred. The most she would have been charged with is failure to obey a stop sign.
The Globe is indeed a trashy tabloid. Note the dark hint of favortism here, even though it would be another 13 years before Laura even met the future President. Perhaps a police psychic warned the authorities of the young lady's status-to-be and they decided not to tempt fate. In the tabloid world, this makes perfect sense.

This thread is starting to sound like Fox News' coverage of the Gary Condit issue (all Condit, all the time). I think that the behavior of Bush's wife or children are irrelevant unless they are being held up as models of the perfect family. I think Bush's daughters are acting like many other college students. It's just unfortunate that they're victims of ridiculous draconian underage drinking laws (which their father signed into law). I actually feel sorry for them.

As easy it would be to take pot shots at the President's kids I would feel a lot better by judging him by his own actions. I still get mad about the character assassination Hillary had to go through but that's another story

yes she is a pushy broad. shy retiring folks do not get elected to high political office. which senators or reps are not pushy. i don't think that most normal people (like me of course) would really like to hang out with big time pols, unless feeding someone else's monumental ego is your idea of a good time.
i would much rather have hillary as prez than the current pretender. hill will probably be the 1st female prez.
i see shrub is now trying to blame his current economic woes on clinton. typical repub, every thing bad is clinton's falut, everything good is due to repubs.

I hate those kind of choices BUT, if you put it that way, as much as I CAN'T stand Bush, I think I would rather see him there then her. At least no one pays attention to Bush and we will recover from his mess but Clinton, (Mrs.), will do terrible long range damage because people think she's more credible. I would never vote for a women but for sure not anyone with her attitude. And for the economy, I think it's too complicated, I mean it goes back a long way, to blame any one president. nlm

Uhhhh, I have seen you blast Hillary here Snake without giving a single reason. She's Just ugly, pushy etc.
Have any examples? Ugly is a personal opinion but we don't, hopefully, elect officials based on physical appearance(yeah go ahead and laugh).
I felt the pushy label was part of the character assasination you are now parroting. Why exactly do you find her to be pushy.
As for qualifications, Hillary spent years as a lawyer. What better job for a lawmaker than someone that knows how laws work? She also has spent years inside the belltway and can get things done...intelligent things. of course, that remains to be seen, but thanks for showing the damage done by the character assasination done to Hillary.
I will be fair here and add that the current President cannot be blamed for much of what has gone on with the economy. Though I read some commentary that publicly wondered why the President appeared so worried about the economy in his first days in office instead of showing what was going right and trying to do anything to fix it.
Clinton entered office when the economy was a bit better but not much. The budget was balanced. Taxes were not cut to do this. Dunno why republicans always say tax cuts help the economy and when they finally are cut the economy goes in the toilet. But that's worth its own thread.

Living here in NY, I voted for Hillary. She was certainly the better alternative (to Rick Lazio). Whatever you think of her politics you have to admit that she has nerves of steel. How she performs as a Senator will determine if I would vote for her again.
I find it interesting that while campaining, Bush was adamant that we needed a big tax cut because the economy was so good. Recently, he's been saying that we need one because the economy is so bad.
I don't trust Bush as far as I could throw him.
Greg.

Actually, you New Yorkers had another choice. Wasn't Al (Grandpa Munster) Lewis running for the same Senate seat?

nothing ignites passions like bill&hill.
i think government policy has substantial economic impact. during the election, when the economy was still rosy, bush kept talking about how it was too good to last and we could expect a down turn. he talked the economy down as the pundits might say.
his secretary of the treasury is ideologically opposed to social security and medicare. his energy policy is a give away to energy producers. his missile defense ideas are most questionable.
his daughters are babes, though!

And now the US isn't going to say anything about China's missle buildup. I think the Prez is hoping that China won't have a problem with his "faith-based" missle defense system.
