My favorite part is where it says, circumstantial and irrefutable in the same sentence.

"...things I have neither seen nor experienced nor heard tell of from anybody else; things, what is more, that do not in fact exist and could not ever exist at all. So my readers must not believe a word I say." -Lucian on his book True History
"...They accept such things on faith alone, without any evidence. So if a fraudulent and cunning person who knows how to take advantage of a situation comes among them, he can make himself rich in a short time." -Lucian critical of early Christians c.166 AD From his book, De Morte Peregrini |

I enjoy this quote appearing at the end of the article:
quote: “People who dismiss this have not really done their homework, skeptics don't really understand. To understand the enigma of Atlantis you have to have good knowledge of ancient history, Biblical references, the Sumerian culture and their tablets and so on,” said Sarmast.
Typical. If you don't subscribe to my theory, it's not because I'm wrong, but because you don't get it.
Actually, if I want to play nice skeptic, then I should approach this differently. I actually don't know much about Atlantis, and I'm not sure if when Sarmast says he "found" Atlantis, he means some island that was the basis for Plato's description, or if we're to understand that he's talking about some advanced utopian civilization? And if it's the latter, why has it left no evidence for us save some mention in a philosopher's writings?
I guess I have to buy the book. Till then, or till he gives us more than wild conjecture, I'm skeptical.
I don't know if that was any friendlier or less antagonistic, and if any pro-Atlantis people are reading and would like to add their reasons why I should believe/be more receptive, I'd love to hear it. |

It seems that every couple of years or so, Atlantis is "discovered" again. It's all turned into a very dull scene.
He is right; skeptics don't understand. We hope he will enlighten us with some solid fact, rather than speculation. But I doubt any'll be forthcoming. They seldom are and this story will most likely fade away, leaving only the easily convinced, convinced.
I would like to know what the 'wall' described actually is. Who knows; it might even be a wall, but it will take more than just calling it that to make it so.
