Geez, Walt, you go away for a while, and come back with a to quoque sort of attitude?
I'm thinking you're going to have to go through the super-secret skeptic's initation all over again. Don't you remember how bad it was the first time?

In 2006, when the next congressional vote is due, the number and kind of electronic voting machines (not to mention whatever other shennanigans they'll indulge in) will insure that the Republicans will be the only viable political party left in the US. After that, our so called "democracy" will be gone forever. |

I'm curious, what do you think about the laws of conservation of matter and energy?
Actually, I'm sceptical whether they are, in fact, laws, but that has little or nothing to do with this series of posts. |

Uh, I'm sorry, but I'm starting to think that's a little of paranoia. Electronic voting is not that easy to mess with, not as many people believe. Also, regardless of the type of voting, it can be done with regular voting as well. |

I also think you are getting a little paranoid.
I remember as a kid seeing the military (national guard) driving around Cincinnati looking for looters during the riots in the 60's. I thought the end of the world was coming. My parents said the USA would never be the same. That was probably true, but it wasn't a verlichesque type of apocalyptic change.
In the 20's they outlawed booze and gangsters started running the cities. Thing eventually returned to 'normal'.
I think the big picture is that the USA is larger than one man or one administration. I have enough faith in the middle of the road silent majority that the end of the USA is not around the corner.
The last war was based on a lie. I am willing to bet we are not going to allow our leaders to start another war while we all sit by with our eyes half-closed.

I really hope you guys are right and I am just being paranoid.
We might very well be able once again to muddle through this time of uncertainty, as we have many times before. Guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh? |

Actually, there does seem to be some reason for hope. The internet is making it more difficult for the powers that be to keep secrets from everyone, and there are lots of people out there who know that we have huge problems. There is Air America, as well, which is helping tremendously to educate the people.
Does anyone know of another progressive radio station that's similar to Air America? It's the only one I can get here in the Bay Area. KGO radio isn't too bad, they have some progressive types there, and some right wing types. But other than those two stations it is nothing but right wing all over the radio. |
