quote:
Reading reports of palestineans in Lebanon shooting off firearms in celebration of this event leaves me cold. Not all of these people can be so evil at heart as to want the death of so many innocents! Can they truly be so brainwashed?

I don't know that it's necessarily brainwashing. Palestinians are used to seeing innocents die. They have a lot of anger stored up and this is just a way for them to release some at what they must surely perceive as some sort of justice. I'm not saying it is just by any means but put yourself in their shoes.

I'm sure there are many arabs that are shocked and horrified. I do fear a backlash against arabs living in the US that have done nothing wrong.

Thank you all for your concern. I've just recieved an E mail from my daughter. A few stiches and a ruined suit but she's basicly okay.

i can't get through to john. i saw it fall. i've never been so dscared. everything is shut down , you can't get in or out. i could see the hole and the fire. there is smoke and dust all over the place. sirens go by every minute foe 3 hours now. when it fell all i could see was dust and smoke and the
antennas and then there was nothing. iam so scared. it was way to fucking close. street phones and cell phones are out and the regular phone only works sometimes. i talked to these guys that were working on a roof and they
saw the airplane go by because it was so low. this is what we have all those nuclear bombs for. i hope all those damn arabs die. i saw those building being built with you and now they're gone. i'm in such shock. my friends and i are going to go give blood later. and then we're probably going to get really drunk. i'll keep trying to get john. i'll let you know. those towers were full of firemen and policemen when they went down. i can't stop crying.

My son, John (who is a cop), I have since learned is also okay and is aiding in the rescue operations.
Thank you all again.

Slater, I am very happy to hear that your family is okay. I just found out that my relatives are alright as well.

I agree. We need to find out who is responsible and take care of it. We need to remember that we are human beings.

Greg.

I'm afraid the crazies are already coming out of the woodwork. I just had somebody quote me this:

"In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb" , "The third big war will begin when the big city is burning" - Nostradamus 1654

My response was, I don't think anybody would confuse NYC with the City of God...

Donnie, just read over on BA about Spoq's post. I don't want to offend Phil, but part of me wants to go on that board and inform Spoq that this is [i]not[/] a good time for his troll bullshit nonsense.
On the news right now, it's being reported that someone is attacking Kabul, and it's not us.

Lisa, actually, it was NOT spoq's post that I got the quote from, but I did notice it right after I posted here and replied to it. I share your sentiments about that post -- revolting.

Slater, I'm new around here, but I know your posts well from my lurking period. I'm very relieved that your family is safe. Now if only there could be another 50,000 such happy endings...

Slater, I'm very relieved! I've been checking the board anxiously awaiting word. I'm glad they're ok!

About the Nostrodamus thing, you're right! I've been on the Ars Technica board (a computer and technology site), and people are even bringing it up there! It's ridiculous...

Bad, bad day. I caught a little bit about missles flying over Kabul, Afghanistan, and perhaps the rumor of a coup or attempted coup by parties opposed to the government.

Greg, the comment that "We need to remember that we are human beings" is exactly perfect. Compassion for the hurt, protection for the innocent, and just punishment for the guilty are what must be foremost in all our minds.

You know, I have heard World War Three and Nostrodamus this/Nostrodamus that all day as if people were eager for it. Is everyone that bored??

Everyone seems so sure that the bin Laden did this. Couldn't a Columbian drug cartel pull it off, too? And wouldn't they have a motive? And for the conspiracy theorists: Maybe the military industrial complex contrived it all to increase funding. Not that I personally believe that. I just want to beat their sorry asses to it.

When we find out who did it, and if a country is harboring them, we should bring our full military might to bear (short of nukes, of course).

An example must be made, to let the world know we will not tolerate the killing of our citizens.

In response to people saying that it was understandable the Palestinians were celebrating in the streets, I posted this on another board:

quote:
The excuses people are making for the celebrating of this tragedy by certain Palestinians are not at all valid.

If the targets had been military or government, maybe.

But these were civilians. If U.S. civilians can be considered "guilty" of anything, it can only be in a most indirect way.

We are seeing religious fanaticism and brainwashing at it's most horrible.

There is absolutely no excuse for celebrating the deaths of innocent civilians, no matter what these disgusting people think the "Great Satan" has done to them.

Thoughts? (yes, I know the Pentagon was also a target, but relatively it wasn't anywere near the civilian casualties)

TD,

I agree with your quote, but then I'm a pacifist.

From Alternet news.

quote:
(Alexander) Haig, interviewed by CNN's Judy Woodruff, decried that those who might "quibble," based on "a misguided sense of social justice," with a U.S. response that takes innocent lives abroad or denies constitutional rights at home.

That makes me feel very uneasy on several levels.

I heard on the TV about an hour ago that price gouging of gasoline was already happening. Something like $5.00/gal. in Kansas City. Can anyone confirm this? I'm very skeptical about what I hear on the tube but if this is true, is it not almost as bad as the terrorist acts themselves? The stupid speculation started early and hasn't stopped.

Greg.

I said earlier that palestinians have seen their share of innocents die. I don't condone their glee but I can easily understand it. Especially since the US is the one nation that consistently backs Israel no matter what atrocities it commits. Obviously this act will do nothing to further their goal of a new nation of Palestine but they are very, very, very angry people.
