Welcome, jneutron. Excellent letters, I enjoyed reading them both. I particularly liked this part:

I think you'll find that the majority of people at this forum are quite able to think for themselves.

Ummmm. No. Since I am a skeptic and deeply religious, I attack unsupported assertations made by people. Usually not the people themselves. verlch is a special case as he loves to change the question, attack female posters, and claim moral superiority instead of support his assertations.
Facts are just that. Facts. But what you accept as fact and what you can support through evidence may be worlds apart. Evolution has been so supported and it raises to the level of a theory for the mechanism and fact for the event itself.
Your entire first paragraph to Dave is unintelligible. Faith isn't free, but it isn't science either. Sailing into unchartered territory is usually the realm of science so that we can analyze what we see. Philosophy delves into the unknown speculation. There are no absolute truths in philosophy. No one here has suggested that discoveries or treasures come boxed up for us to find.
Enough analysis for you? |

Since I do not believe in God I find it impossible to attack God's children. However, by your own standards please find for me one place in this thread where we attack God's children. I'm not even sure what this means. I don't bullshit. When I don't know something I'm the first to say so. I have never backed down from an opinion I believe to be valid (is that a stickfight?), and I am not at all reluctant to apologize when I am wrong. I never set out to impress you, so the fact that I have not does not disappoint me.

verlch doesn't make me uneasy. He infuriates me by using outdated societal norms concerning women, illogical arguementation style, and refusal to respond to requests for him to support his assertations. Used by God, got proof of that? Lots of people have claimed to be used by God. Didn't make it particularly so. Jim Jones and David Koresh leap to mind. Changing questions indicates a lack of support for an assertation, not communication by God.
