I stand somewhat proudly by my original post in this thread supporting the lack of any reason what so ever to attack Michael Schiavo. I think the facts have consistently more than supported my position. I admire his maintaining mostly silence despite all the outrageous unsupported claims made about him. I wonder if he has any desire to sue any of the attackers for slander and/or libel. It would seem the field is ripe for such cases.

One small thing. I do think it would be big of Michael to swallow his pride and let Terri be buried as her parents wish. I can understand why he might feel the way he does, but this just makes him look childish and vindictive which only serves to confirm, however unjustly, that he is a bad guy… Throw them a bone, so to speak. Terri wont mind...

Which is just far too convenient, don't you think? It's almost like the Schindlers planned it this way.

As for Schiavo suing anyone, I doubt it. Were I in his shoes, I'd just want the limelight turned off. Starting up new lawsuits would just crank the outrage up, and get Fox News' knickers in a bunch. Limbaugh would never leave the guy alone.

On Bill Maher's show, Whoopi Goldberg just made an interesting point: when Terri and Michael got married, Terri's father probably gave her away. Obviously, such a metaphor comes from a time when women were little more than property (but should resonate greatly with any conservative worried about "traditional marriage"), but the symbolism still identifies a point at which there is a rather definitive separation between daughter and parents.

Considering what they accused him of it would be very big of him indeed.

But I agree the fight between the parents and husband was/is the real underlying battle, at least as it appears to me.

I think he should do everything within his ability to deny the parents anything that they want in this case. They deserve no less for their actions. Then he should sue the crap out of them and Terri's brother/sister for the wild and slanderous allegations made against him.

But that's just me....

I can't speak for Michael, but were it me, I'd sue not only Terri's parents but some low-life politicians and lying media whores as well, and that bloated bag of crap Limbaugh be damned. Indeed, there might be grounds to include him in the suit.

Holy crap:
The Terri Schiavo saga crossed the line from media circus into the theater of the absurd recently, when John Edward... [said of Terri] that "she's clear on what's going - and I can tell you that she's definitely clear on what's happening now around her."

Funny, however, that he didn't bother to tell us whether or not Terri wanted to have her feeding tube restored.
What an absolute bastard.

It was only a matter of time. I was just waiting to see which "psychic" had the balls to milk this political landmine first.

That man has no shame. What scum.

Absolute bastard indeed. From the article:
quote:
And are we so really so ignorant as to believe that John Edward, who has been exposed as a fraud by James Randi and other professional debunkers, really knew what Terri was thinking (or that she was thinking at all)?

John Edward uses some centuries-old carnival techniques to con the public into believing that he can communicate with the dearly departed. And he's gotten rich from it.

The most disgusting part of it is that he has made his fortune by taking advantage of people who are at their most vulnerable - grieving family members who desperately want to
feel a connection to their lost loved one. And now he has gained some new PR for himself by exploiting an over-exploited deceased woman named Terri Schiavo.

John Edward should be ashamed. But he is not.

The American public should be ashamed. But we are not.

Most of all, the media should be ashamed. But they are not.

We get what we deserve. Heaven help us all.

But Edward is merely one among many, and the gullible are manifest. As long as the equally low-life and mendacious media are so eagre give him and his foul ilk a forum, they will continue to perform a cynical sort of fellatio upon the grieving, whilst carefully grooming their bank accounts.

So... The Terri case quickly dropped from the radar once her death made the evening news. Nothing in the Swedish media, are there any aftermaths?

Just some neocon congressmen making veiled (and not so veiled) threats against the republican judges who dealth with the case.

And nobody giving much of a shit that the bastards are threatening judges.

And some neocon congressmen making it painfully clear that they have never attended a class on American Government, making idiotic statements railing against an "out of control judiciary that is unaccountable to the public". It's really amusing, if it weren't for the fact that a majority of Americans are so fucking illiterate that they accept these type of statements at face value... Our judiciary isn't accountable to the public on purpose. gdamn morons.

Other than that, the whole thing seems to have become a non-issue.

Fairly predictable, really. It was a major issue for only as long as it could be milked for religo-political gain and could sell airtime to sponsers.

I've no doubt it's still being jawboned in some churchs here and there, and of course it's being used to attack judges, but beyond that, there's nothing. And amongst those with no adgenda beyond making a living, the vast majority of us, there never was much to start with.

But it might not be over with yet. If some cheap politition sees an advantage in bringing it back up, up it will come, to the disgust of everyone else. But that's not too likely to happen because:

Terry did us a favor. Bush, DeLay, et al, got nicely burned when they tried to interfere.

Not to beat a brain-dead horse, but I recently saw a show on A&E which had more substantial video of Terri Schiavo than I'd seen during the ruckus, one of the videos in which she was supposedly responding to her father's "joke."

Scene: Terri's Room, Terri on bed, her father standing nearbly.

Mr Schindler says that many people don't know this, but Terri has always had a lazy eye, which makes it harder for her to see on the left side of her, and makes some people believe that she's not responsive, but she's got a lazy eye on that side.

He sits on a chair next to her bed. Yes, she's always had a lazy eye. We used to make fun of her when she was litte. Remember that? Remember us making fun of you? [Terri lets out a sound that they refer to as a laugh - but it sounded like no laugh I've ever heard, more like an animal cry. No smile.] She laughed! You think that's funny. You remember that. You'd make your eye go in so Bobby would laugh.

I can't give the full flavor of the thing, inflection and facial expression. But it looked like the "turning they eye to make Bobby laugh" was an afterthought, as Mr S realized how bad it sounded to laugh at a little, lazy-eyed kid.

Wasn't an autopsy promised? Whatever happened with that?
