quote: Just before Father's Day, Gov. Jeb Bush announced that he wanted every public school in Florida to host a Christian-based program designed to increase fathers' participation in their children's lives.
The program, All Pro Dad, combines a biblical foundation with the draw of popular professional athletes to promote the belief that "the father is the head of the household" and that men should rely on God to help them be better parents and keep their marriages intact. It also encourages Bible reading.
More details can be found here.
Telling, isn't it? So much for church-state...
Interesting quote here, bold emphasis is mine:
quote: A video introduction by Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, All Pro Dad's national spokesman, lays the groundwork for good parenting by establishing the father as the "head coach" of the family.
"That's the biblical way it's set up. Mom and Dad directing the family together, with the dad being the head of the household," Dungy instructs participants. "Now that doesn't always happen... but that's the ideal way and the best way, and that's the way we're going to function the best."
But the group's president last week did not directly answer several questions about the Bible's role in the All Pro Dad resources.
"Isn't that self-evident?" Merrill said. "A lot of the principles contained in the Old and New Testaments really are superior principles for raising children and for living."
Just poke around on the site that they reference there.
Here's a test that they have you take; at least they're more subtle here.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

Yet another Bush family pro-fundamentalist-politcal power grab. These people have no interest or concept of democracy. Bible based family? And if a member of a household is deemed to be somehow in the occult, can Dad stone them? Because: "You shall not allow a sorceress to live." Exodus 22:18

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.
"TAX AND SPEND" IS GOOD! (TAX: Wealthy corporations who won't go poor even after taxes. SPEND: On public works programs, education, the environment, improvements.) |

Man, I took that test and drove the ball 78 yards. Of course, we no longer have children in the house. So, I guess I may not be a real All Pro Dad.
Seriously, this group sounds an awful lot like Bill McCartney's Promise Keepers. McCartney coached at Colorado. Obviously, these guys are jocks for Jesus, and they're trying to indoctrinate our kids whether we like it or not. I reckon they feel that they need to get to our kids before they learn how to think rationally, and to be suspicious of authority figures fishing for submission to their hierarchy of the supernatural.
Now Jeb, He's worse than his brother, but only because he's smarter. Just imagine how bad off we'd be if the Chimp had a near human IQ. Man, I shudder to think...

As Sandra Day O'Connor said, "Why should we trade a system that has served us so well for one that has served others so poorly?" |
