Tempel 1 is already very resplendent.
Then go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet#Physical_characteristics
“…Surprisingly, cometary nuclei are among the blackest objects known to exist in the solar system. The Giotto probe found that Comet Halley's nucleus reflects approximately 4% of the light that falls on it, and Deep Space 1 discovered that Comet Borrelly's surface reflects only 2.4% to 3% of the light that falls on it; by comparison, asphalt reflects 7% of the light that falls on it …”
Then go here http://deepimpact.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/bullseye.html
Can this little light increase brightness of the comet?
I don't think so
Look at this movie again (I said these things in a previous post) http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/deepimpact/multimedia/070405-HRI-impact.html
Tempel 1 seems a bad animal (NASA's buffoons calls it “bull's eye” now). You can see its eyes, the nose, the mouth.
The bad animal is hit in the right eye.
Hurra! for NASA. They have killed the monster.
But what is that light? An explosion? But an explosion needs oxygen.
Softimage, Maya, 3ds max, LightWave instead don't need oxygen

Bigbrain, if we can't send space craft to the other objects in our Solar System how do you explain the recent Deep Impact mission. This was where NASA slammed an 800 pound probe into comet Temple 1. The resultant impact created a large crater spewing dust and gasses out from the comet. The important aspect was that right here on earth professional and amateur astronomers were watching the comet before during and after the time of impact. And about 8 minutes after impact the comet began to brighten, mostly due to the increase of material in the comets coma. By the way the delay was the result of the approximate 8 minute light travel time between the comet and Earth. To me this was independently verifiable evidence by anyone with a moderately sized telescope (8 inches or 20.3 centimeters) that NASA did indeed slam the probe into the comet.
Now if this was a NASA hoax how did they get the comet to brighten at just the right moment? Or are professional and amateur astronomers from around the world in cahoots with NASA too? Or maybe you think NASA asked a psychic when the comet would brighten due to a natural outburst and used that time for their time of impact? If it's the later that psychic should try for James Randi's million dollar prize
Edit for spelling
He already mentioned that one. He claimed that the impact was actually an explosion and it must have been faked using the same set of 3D studio shenanigans.
His wall of ignorance remains unassailed. |

Okay bigbrain. Please explain what the amateur's saw, at the precise moment that they were supposed to see something? How did NASA arrange that? |

stargirl, very good question - pointing out a completely independent verification of the "Deep Impact" mission's success due to good navigation (which included optical navigation as the probe neared its target).
Dust reflects light, though not as well as ice. The zodiacal glow, visible from any place with good dark skies, is simply interplanetary dust reflecting the Sun's light.
A cloud of anything knocked out of a comet relatively near the Sun will show up, as it did when the impactor hit Tempel I with a kinetic energy roughly equal to five tons of TNT. Many independent confirmations from various countries confirm the success of the Deep Impact mission.
It is not possible to fake an event in deep space, imaged in real time by widely separated observers. Anyone who has the slightest understanding of elementary astronomy knows that. If you recall James Woods' character in Contact, who claimed a deep-space signal was faked by an Earth-orbiting station, you have an example from popular fiction of such an impossible claim.

You are implying that an explosion cannot occur in space because there is no oxygen.
If the latter were true, then explosions could not occur underwater, because there is no available air and thus no available oxygen underwater.
Explosions do occur underwater, therefore your reasoning is wrong.

Dear friend sts60
demonstrate that "a widely separated observers" have taken pictures of Deep Impact before and after the impact.
Please go here again http://deepimpact.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/jpg/DI_T1_doy164.jpg

5 tons of TNT are ridiculous at the distance of 133 million kilometres and above all as ragards brightness of the comet itself.

So much for the "explosion" theory, I guess.
What were exposure settings for the first photo? I can't find any info and thought you might be able to tell us.
Also, why are we on this subject? What happened to all the other topics? I guess you tacitly admit defeat and move on, no? |

Seems to me that bigbrain is also pretending to be unaware that the English idiom for hitting a target precisely is "Bull's Eye." |

Here you can see better that Tempel 1 looks like a bull http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/deepimpact/multimedia/070405-HRI-impact.html See the movie
I was unaware "that the English idiom for hitting a target precisely is "Bull's Eye".
BUT THEN NASA'S BUFFOONS HAVE USED ON PURPOSE THAT IDIOM. THEY ARE REALLY VERY INGENUOUS, TOO INGENUOUS. THEY HAVE BETRAYED THEMSELVES FINALLY
