And being an even bigger idiot than ever.
quote:

Evangelical Christian pastor Jerry Falwell has a message for Americans when it comes to celebrating Christmas this year: You're either with us, or you're against us.

Falwell has put the power of his 24,000-member congregation behind the "Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign," an effort led by the conservative legal organization Liberty Counsel. The group promises to file suit against anyone who spreads what it sees as misinformation about how Christmas can be celebrated in schools and public spaces.

The 8,000 members of the Christian Educators Association International will be the campaign's "eyes and ears" in the nation's public schools. They'll be reporting to 750 Liberty Counsel lawyers who are ready to pounce if, for example, a teacher is muzzled from leading the third-graders in "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing."

Don't these dipshits have aything better to do? Who gives a rat's ass how someone wishes for someone else a good holiday, as long as it's something other than "Fuck you?" It's the spirit of the greeting, not the words that have the meaning.

But now, apparently, he and his equally demented breathern want to clog the courts with the most frivilous of lawsuits.

750 lawyers, all born again (and there's a chilling thought), ready to drag teachers, store keepers, and quite possibly thee and me for our heresy, into court; wasting time, wasting the funds of teachers and storkeepers, and possibly mine and thine.

Fuck Falwell; I'll never wish a merry christmas again.

Another reason to forget xmas and celebrate Festivus!

Without the (righteous) "Us" versus (evil) "Them" religion wouldn't be nearly as much fun... after all, getting to be elite is one of the most totally cool parts of it, right?

See the "10 Reasons why I am a Skeptic" thread.

Is there a Pastafarian equivalent to Christmas?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Hey, Christmas is the American holiday of shopping. What better day to celebrate our great country of consumerism than Christmas. Santa is no longer a saint just as All Hallows Eve has gone back to its Pagan roots. I don't need to change the name. I don't care that some people want to take the sacred day of shopping and turn it into something religious instead. Those people are no match for the marketing powers of big business.

This reminded me of the Origin of the Candy Cane scam that some Jesus followers have tried to claim was a real story. You've seen that xeroxed handout, haven't you. My son got a couple from various school mates over the years along with the candy. I took the time to research it. Turns out it originated from a children's fictional book written only a few years ago. And Christmas candy canes originated hundreds of years ago and never had anything to do with a shepherd's staff nor the red blood of Jesus. Those pesky Christians, trying to take credit for candy canes.

Hell, I just think Jerry is still upset about his football program at Liberty U. $7.4 million should buy more than one victory.

Looks like the poor employees at the ACLU will be working overtime on Christmas Eve due to Jerry "Scrooge" Falwell and his ignorant band of law school flunkies.

Don't they (Team Falwell) get to pay the ACLU-lawyers when they eventually loose?

I don't think TF would have to foot the bill for the lawyers the ACLU would recruit for this. Those lawyers would most likely be paid for by the organization they're representing, which is what makes this really disgusting. The school districts lose out the most on funds no matter which side wins because they need to pay for lawyers. Those funds should be going towards a better environment for the kids and if TF decides to file suit for something like this I will definitely be wishing them an Unhappy Holidays!

And I just convinced my mother last year that calling the school thing at this time of year a 'Holiday Program' instead of 'Christmas Program' was really necessary. I simply pointed out that my daughters best friend (whom my mom likes) is Jewish and would be insulted by participating in a 'Christmas Program' since she's Jewish and not Christian. That it isn't to suppress Christianity but to let others who celebrate other holidays at this time of year participate in a school sponsored thing too.

Seems like Falwell thinks he's on a roll.
quote:
Jerry Falwell and an army of conservative lawyers drew a line in the snow yesterday, warning Boston and other cities: Don't mess with Christmas.

And even before the first volley was fired, City Hall caved. []

Just after a top lawyer for the conservative Liberty Counsel blasted the Hub's annual “holiday tree” ceremony, a Menino administration official scrambled to do damage control.

“This is a Christmas tree,” Boston Parks Commissioner Toni Pollak insisted about the Nova Scotia spruce the city will light Dec. 1 on historic Boston Common. “It's definitely a Christmas tree.”

However, the city's official Web site refers to the event as “Boston's Official Holiday Tree Lighting.”

“Calling a Christmas tree a holiday tree isn't being inclusive. It's disenfranchising people of faith. It's like calling a menorah a candle stick,” said Mathew Staver, Liberty Counsel's president and general counsel.

Falwell, the powerful Evangelical Christian pastor, has put the power of his 24,000-member congregation behind the “Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign,” an effort led by the conservative legal organization Liberty Counsel. The group promises to file suit against anyone who spreads what it sees as misinformation about how Christmas can be celebrated in schools and public spaces.

Sooo, the porcine pulpit-pounder is determined to dictate how the Winter Solstice holiday is celebrated, is he? I think that, as happened with his Moral Majority assininity a couple of decades or so back, people will get fed up and slap him back down into the honey-hole he slimed his way out of, born-again shysters and all.

Might be fun to watch.
