As advocated by the "Stand to Reason" guy here.
Mind you, the waitress started off with a totally useless reply to that guy's opening comment: she could have started off with something more challenging.
When he said that many people believe foolish things when it comes to religion, she could have said: "Yeah. Like the virgin birth, people rising from the dead, 500 witnesses that only one person wrote about, zombies walking the streets of a city and only one source mentioning it), etc.
It wouldn't have shut the guy up, but he'd have to use a different tactic.
I like his tone:
quote: Christians should get out of the habit of trying to refute every fantasy a nonbeliever imagines or every claim he manufactures out of thin air. Don#8217;t take up the defense when the other person is the one making the claim. Why let him off so easily?
For example, I was on a popular secular talk radio program in Los Angeles making a case for intelligent design over evolution. When a caller used the Big Bang theory to argue against a Creator, I said the Big Bang worked in my favor. It seems to me, any Big Bang needs a Big #8220;Banger.#8221;
The caller disagreed. The Big Bang doesn#8217;t need God, he claimed. Then leading off with the phrase #8220;One could say#8230;,#8221; he spun a lengthy science fiction tale for the audience on how everything came from nothing.
"You#8217;re right,#8221; I responded. #8220;#8216;One could say#8217; anything he wants. But giving good reasons why we should believe the story you just told is another thing altogether.#8221; It wasn#8217;t my job to disprove his fairy tale. It was his job to demonstrate why anyone should take his musings seriously.
Arrogant bugger, eh? Thing is, the Big Bang flies right in the face of the literal reading of "genesis". amd the fact that his "god" would have the same origin problem as the "big bang".
He elaborates more on it here.
For the hell of it, I've replied to that.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

Heh, against a novice, or someone who isn't prepared for it, it is indeed useful tactic, but it can backfire pretty badly if a person knows their stuff.
Good reply by the way. |

I am not comfortable with his waitress story. It is a little too pat. I mean, who argues religion with waitress' and what waitress has the time? Not to mention that she works for tips and therefore she'll most likely agree whether she agrees or not.
I think that the story is a yarn out of the whole cloth.
A good reply indeed, ig. I further note that you left the link to our humble (chuckle), little fora. Perhaps he'll be paying us a visit in order to sort out the heathen amongst us. That might be a worthy test for his "Columbo theory" of bullying waitress' and being smartass with professors -- actually, any prof, certainly any teaching the sciences, that let his class degenerate into pointless, religious bickering should go into another line of work.

Another thing missed which you didn't note in your excellent reply is that the Bible calls the Moon the night sky light without noticing you can see it often during the day. |

There's only one little snag in your post.. Oceans came about 500 million years after the earth and the moon formed. Though they weren't salt, if that is a pre-requisit for calling it an ocean. It was great waters though. |
