..... one Alabame state representitive, Steve Hurst, (D-Munford), has introduced a bill to the legislature straight out of Roy Moore's Book of Religious Tomfoolery. quote: Bill would put "God Bless America" on Alabama car tags
By BOB JOHNSON Associated Press Writer
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The phrase "God Bless America" would be added to Alabama's already crowded license plates if a bill proposed by a state legislator becomes law.
State Rep. Steve Hurst, D-Munford, has prefiled a bill in the Alabama House that would require most Alabama car tags to include the phrase "God Bless America." Some specialty license plates and motorcycle tags would be exempt.
Hurst said he got the idea when the saw the words "God Bless America" on a specialty prisoner of war car tag.
"I thought why don't we do the same thing for all the tags in the state of Alabama. That will let all the people in America know that we are a Bible Belt state," Hurst said.
Will it fly? I dunno -- it's Alabama, after all. But it might get to be fun to watch, and I really can't think of any further comment....

Yes it will fly, of course. Just more pro-Christian separation of church and state. |

Oh, it will pass. Then the ACLU will come in and sue. Eventually this will be struck down, and the neocons will rant and rave, thus wasting a lot of time and money.
If I am forced to get one (I live in Mobile, AL) - I will have to scratch out God and put something else - maybe Cthulhu if it will fit.
Besides, I think most people are aware that Alabama is a Bible Belt state, just look at the abject poverty, terrible education system, high teen pregnancy and drug use rate, high infant mortality rate, institutionalized racism, and dumb ass judges and legislators.

With look, instead of that horrible blue-starred thing they have over the numbers. That looks just bad. |

I sorta liked it. But only if "Stars fell on Alabama" has some meaning-- in a song or poem or something. Because if not, then it's a very dippy slogan. But when compared to "God Bless America" I think I'll take the falling stars. I mean, at this point I don't think ol' Yahweh is listening to our repeated pleas for blessing. It's time to find a new deity to get a blessing from-- haven't we had enough hurricanes already?!? |

If you listen to Jimmy Buffet, then you know about the "Stars fell on Alabama". Jimmy Buffet is a native Alabamian.
For the recordl, I don't like Jimmy Buffet's music.

Oh, I get it. This is a marketing ploy reminiscent of the Wall Drug bumper sticker campaign. And what next? Free holy water?

Well, that on itself isn't bad... depends on the context. If it's something like, "choose life over smashing yourself in the highway", or "choose life over drinking yourself to death", I'm cool with it.
Of course, that probably isn't the context. |

I can't seem to find what FL plates are supposed to look like. A Google of FL plate images gives quite the variety. |

Alabama also has the "Choose Life" plate with a drawing of a boy and girl smiling faces (drawn as if by a 5 year old). |

The site I linked above gives this basic plate:
They don't give alternatives, though... |
