Most of you know that my dad has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, Stage III cancer. About three weeks ago I was told he had about 3 years to live. The cancer is more aggressive than was originally thought.

Two weeks ago, I had to take my father back to the hospital. One of the vertebra in his neck has collapsed. From this, one arm has been paralyzed and causes him extreme pain. On 17 Nov he will be discharged from the hospital for home hospice care. He's refusing all chemo and other treatments except for pain management.

Because the cancer is so aggressive, the doctors are now giving him between 6 weeks and 6 months.

Thought you all would like to know. I know I caused worry for a couple of people this past week. My apologies.

It is difficult to form the words I'd like to say.

I wish you and your father all comfort in this trying time.

Thank you all for your kind words, they are appreciated.

I've been avoiding making this post. He's taken a turn for the worse. When they brought him home yesterday, they nearly lost him in the ambulance. He won't eat and he won't take his pain medication. He's been uncommunicative since he was brought home. There is some concern on the part of the hospice nurse that he won't make it thru the weekend.

Thank you all for your wonderful support and thoughts, they are all appreciated.

My father died at approx 5:30 MDT on 18 November 2001. He calmed down from the agitated state he'd been in since coming home on Saturday and fell asleep. Shortly after that we noticed he was no longer breathing. He went peacefully.

Thanks again.

Trish,
I am sorry for your loss. I want to ask you if I may pray for you during these troubling times, but I don't want to insult you. I wish there was something I could say to "make it all better". But I know there isn't.

Blessed Be.

Trish,

My father went out in much the same manner last year. He died in his sleep a few days out of the hospital. It was a peaceful death. I think of him almost every day. In that way he still lives inside me.

Our condolences go out to you and your family.
