Thanks all.

Valiant - your prayers will be appreciated by my family - tho, you probably know that I hold different views regarding the efficacy of prayer.

Lisa - I will probably be calling you in the next few days.

Donnie B, Zandermann, James, Kil, Michelle, rubysue, and Snake I appreciate your thinking about my family and I in this time. It's wonderful knowing that I have your support. It's been especially trying with having to plan the funeral mass and dealing with everyone offering prayers while holding my tongue to not offend. Thank you.

They mean well.

When my father died, I realized what an honor it is to share a human life. Hope those kinds of thoughts carry you all through what you need to do.

Nodding and smiling and some of the strange looks - I just want to scream sometimes.

Then scream. It can't hurt, and might help.

Best to pick a lonely place, though, or those strange looks could get even stranger...

Still hoping you're hanging tough. Best wishes.

Then scream. If it make you feel better, just do it.

That is true. And there are times one has to be understanding. But.....

I don't mean this to be funny, just adding a different point of reference:
Being tactful is not my strong point.
When my father passed away, I carried a fairly large statue of The Buddha with me and then tried to get into a debate with the Rabbi, who said he was too busy at the time to discusses if there was a god or not.
Why should an atheist have to accommodate the attitude of a believer? What about US? Why should we have to go off and scream. Are we 2nd class citizens?

Snake I can agree with you. However, I know that most in my family are highly religious. Of all the people I can think of, actually listening to my dad's family talk of him - he's the one who might actually understand my being an atheist. Just tonight Ralph (his brother) remarked that he was surprised that he accepted my mom wanting Last Rights (catholic thing) for him - since he never discussed religion. Though he could spin a prayer at Thanksgiving - that's the only time I ever heard him pray - and he was Southern Baptist. Go figure.

Wow Trish. The last I heard your father had just taken a turn for the worse. Now I see that it was a lot more than that. Hang in there.

Oh, dear, oh, dear. I have only had a little time in the past few weeks to come in and make an occasional post, then run off. Things happen so quickly.

It is so very difficult to lose a parent. I have lost father, mother, brothers, and husband and am now the last of my generation. I fully understand the immense tragedy of all of this for you. (I suffered a heart attack after my mother's death and still take medication.) Be certain to keep yourself strong and healthy in the wake of this awful tragedy.

Your father is at peace, now. There is no pain or emotional trauma for him anymore. I hope that you will be able to bounce back from the great despair of losing such a much-loved person. It really takes a lot of time to recover (if one ever recovers completely from losing loved ones).

I am so very, very sorry to hear about this...

Valiant - I should have added to my original message that your thoughts and understanding are appreciated by me tho.

Thanks everyone. The funeral services were last night. Kinda a finality to the situation I suppose, but it's still hard to think of him being gone.
