What a chickenshit coward. If you are going to put for something like that, at least have the balls (or faith) to defend it! Putz. |

The American Taliban rears its ugly head, once again. One of the televised networks, maybe ABC, did a spot on this story on the evening news. There was the usual crap-ola lies/mis-information about how "this is a christian nation founded on christian principals", along with pushing another pile of dung about how "our founding fathers were all christians". HORSE HOCKEY! The segment then went streetside quizzing people about the bill. The general consensus was that "it was a bad idea". I hope that holds true. Here's Americans United for Sep. of Church/State take on it.... http://blog.au.org/2006/03/resolutely_wron.html |

Irony is right. How the hell do these people rationlize in their brains that the majority needs protection? Protection from what? |

The resolution:
quote:
SECOND REGULAR SESSION
House Concurrent Resolution No. 13
93RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY
4572L.02I
Whereas, our forefathers of this great nation of the United States recognized a Christian God and used the principles afforded to us by Him as the founding principles of our nation; and
Whereas, as citizens of this great nation, we the majority also wish to exercise our constitutional right to acknowledge our Creator and give thanks for the many gifts provided by Him; and
Whereas, as elected officials we should protect the majority's right to express their religious beliefs while showing respect for those who object; and
Whereas, we wish to continue the wisdom imparted in the Constitution of the United States of America by the founding fathers; and
Whereas, we as elected officials recognize that a Greater Power exists above and beyond the institutions of mankind:
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the members of the House of Representatives of the Ninety-third General Assembly, Second Regular Session, the Senate concurring therein, that we stand with the majority of our constituents and exercise the common sense that voluntary prayer in public schools and religious displays on public property are not a coalition of church and state, but rather the justified recognition of the positive role that Christianity has played in this great nation of ours, the United States of America.
Don't these buffoons have some real problems to solve? Why are they wasting their time on this nonsense?
While searching for the exact text of the bill, I came across this page which just happens to be the journal of the Missouri General Assembly for 2/12/01. The first thing they did was have a prayer:
quote: Stir up Your power, O Lord, and come among us with great might; and because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let Your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Why the fuck is any governmental body anywhere in this country allowed to include this kind of stuff in its official business? The arrogance is astounding. |

Just like the asshole they elected to office they will try to change our long lived and fair constitution into their dogmatic vision for a xian government. This regime we are under at the moment is allowing the religious right to have their own way and virtually promoting it. This is a shameful time in the history of our nation. It reminds me of when people owned other people or burned them on stakes and prohibited them from pleasures during prohibition. When will the xian right(wrong) get it? We are a nation of FREEDOM FROM & OF religion. Democracy is a double edged sword, you may not like what the other guy is doing but you have to allow him his rights because you would expect the same. If I wanted to live in a religious controlled government I'd move to the middle east. Didn't they ever hear the old saying Never mix politics with religion? |

These fools are getting bolder. In a way, it just signals their demise. Like someone drunk with power, next will be the infighting, then the masses rise up to restore common sense.
These guys are too stupid to realize they really do not all follow some perfect religion, guided by the hand of God. Instead, they all have their own petty little personal view of religion and very few agree with eachother on even a small portion of those views. |

That is why they require a common enemy, which allows them to put aside differences and unite.
However, in this modern age, common enemies are getting harder and harder to come by. |

Why is this not OK with you? There is no endorsment of religion here. Politicians have every right to pray to whatever God they want to whenever they want to. If people don't like them doing it they can vote them out of office. Just because you work for the government does not mean you cannot talk about your religion in public. Politicians can even run for office on a platform that they will install Christian, Islamic, etc. values in government. You do not have to vote for them. |

Hes talking about prayer as a part of the legislatures session, if im not mistaken. They can pray to Satan after the official state business. |

Prayer and religious doctrine should be a private matter and not in any way reflected on the public at large. I wonder how it would go over if one of our elected officials recited an islamic prayer or a secular piece. No doubt in my mind that the xians in the US would be up in arms, literally. If my elected officials want to pray in private that's fine with me but I don't want them blessing me with some unseen entity. That's just rude. |

How has this resolution made it as far as it has? I'm dumbfounded. I've got no words for this, really. |
