Democracy Now coverage of a huge rally last Friday in Chicago is the only coverage of this event I can find.

If you want to discuss the rally in this thread feel free, but my point is the shock and disbelief at the lack of media coverage. Are we now at the point where the only free press are the non-mainstream sources?

You're joking, right?
I couldn't swing a cat without seeing coverage. And don't get me started on the traffic snarls on my way back from work.
CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, all had coverage. |

Been that way for a while.
The mainstream is nothing more than a tabloid press.
Ratings > all else.
No exceptions.

I figured there'd be local coverage, Valiant. An absence of local coverage would have been really egregious. And I saw a brief mention today on CNN because they covered the Mexican counterpart to the protest. But that's 3 rallies now with over 100,000-500,000 people that barely got mentioned on the national news. This one, the NY Republican Convention protests and the Women's rights march in WA DC. It's downright frightening.
CNN today mentioned the protest, noting the Spanish discussion used the socialism theme that the organizer left out of the USA version. Interesting twist to the news coverage. Seems CNN doesn't care if 100,000 people march in the street but if they have anything in common with Venezuela's Chavez or the new Bolivia leader, then it's news. |
