I guess it's a slow news day up in Montana, and the cattle-mutilationist ufools have forgotten the drubbing they took from skeptics last time they hyped this nonsense:http://www.greatfallstribune.com/news/stories/20020103/topstories/1410092.html

This reminds me of an exchange many years between a skeptical investigator and a ufool. The two were viewing an especially grisly photo of the alleged evidence. The ufool pointed to it and declared, authoritatively (of course), "If coyotes did that, they used knives!"
Without a pause, the skeptic responded, "If surgeons did that, they used their teeth!"

Well, you just can't keep the bullshit down. The guys who first perpetrated the crop circle hoax admitted to what they had done. Did that stop the ufools? Nope. Crop circle theory's are still with us. Go figure...

I wonder if FoxNews here in CO will decide to head back south for more news of cattle mutilations. They ran this nonsense when they ran the horrid video about the Moon.

I've been in the US Air Force for 14 years. I'm still waiting for my Cattle Mutilation Course. I'll have to check with the formal training manager....

We do not want to convert all of the true-believers. Where would we find such nonsense to laugh about? If all people became skeptics, life would be pretty dull.

From the article:
"Cuts on the cows are often circular or oval and -- as with Everett King's Charolais -- seem to be made with surgical precision."

Looks just like that cow triple-bypass I saw on the Learning Channel last week.

Seems like the farmers are exercising their skeptic muscle:
"Some folks in the area think the U.S. Air Force or aliens are behind the mutilations, but not Ruby.

'I'm sorry, but I personally think it's somebody local ... that's doing it for kicks,' she said."

And, then there are the mildly credulous, who really don't have anything to do but give opinions on local phenomena that don't involve them:
"'I just can't believe little men are coming from outer space,' said Conrad resident Jack Rowekamp, a retired bus driver and custodian. 'But I guess you never know.'"

Good thing the tribune caught up with this guy.

I'm sorry but I cannot believe that this would actually happen. Well, maybe it could but the way they word it, it sounds like it's totally fake.

I can't blame these people for doing that. It really does get that boring out here. Although, I'd guess there would have to be some degree of pure and simple insanity. But if I lived, say, on a farm where it was only me and the moo-cows, maybe I'd be driven to do that kind of .. really, really nasty stuff to cattle, just so it'd get some attention. And maybe people.
Wonder how many people are hyuk hyuk-ing about this one.

Let's do a really simple experiment.

1) Take some freshly dead cattle and leave them out in the open.

2) Have a video camera trained on each one.

3) Tape the actual evidence of the natural scavenging that is undoubtedly the cause of this 'phenomenon'.

4) Invite the 'Ufonuts' to watch the entire proceeding, both live and taped.

5) Run a lottery based on how long it takes them to claim that "shape-shifting aliens are responsible because those coyotes just look too well-fed to be real wild animals".

6) See how many beers we need to consume in order to forget the urge to cry ourselves to sleep.
