Camped in the Badland National Park/Grasslands area back in Aug. of '84. Was setting up tent by the light of a full moon, then came the distinct sound of a prairie rattler.(followed by the immediate sound of two flashlights going on!)
Urged the snake over to the bank of the White river. Noticed lightening out west. About 10:30pm then. Got hammered by incredible electrical storm, twice. Bolts hitting within 3-500 ft. Out of tent - into car! About 2-3 hours sleep that night.
Back again in June of 98. Same thing with the storm. Got s.bag soaked.

Lisa:
In the other folder, you asked regarding Sagan's Demon Haunted World and Shermer's Why People Believe Weird Things.
Have read both, although neither one recently...would suggest the Sagan first, as I think the Shermer would require a little more work...but if Megan is relatively free this summer, both should be doable.
And later, I'd suggest either Broca's Brain (as @tomic suggests) or the book version of Cosmos.

Hey, you're the one complaining about being bored. Have you finished the religon folder yet? I'll get the books to you. Probably also one by James Randi. Never thought being an agnostic would be this much work huh? Learn to defend your position. BTW if you're REALLY bored, next time you're on that riding mower..ahem..ahem. Lisa

CM, Demon Haunted World is a skeptic "Must Read" I couldn't put it down and managed to get through it in just a couple days. It cost me some sleep but it was worth it ; )

CM, some people might read your last post and chuckle, but believe me, this is not funny. The National Guard plays their games every year in the Black Hills. A couple of years ago, wet ground + tents + thunderstorm = about 15 people in the hospital with 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Lisa

Ouch! The big ZAP! Scares me. One of the creepest NPR programs was a 30 minute program on lightening strike survivors and their stories. Very eerie.
Check your RC radar....storm out west of you!

No kidding I feel a low pressure system on the approach. Gads, do I have a headache. Plus I just got finished finding a "superstring" site for that newbie on the other board that wasn't so math-heavy it knocked down walls. Went through a good half dozen sites. This morning it was plasma physics. Sheesh, do these people have any kind of search engines themselves. Sorry, catty. The thunder has started and I think my eyeballs are leaking. Mea Culpa. Lisa

Super-strings have entwined your brain. Low pressure is causing your eyeballs to leak plasma physics. Take two eyeballs and call me in the morning. ;^)
What, me worry? |

Now this was a funny site(no I had never been there before). It gave me this mental image of a patient at a mental hospital saying "Why am I in here with all these crazy people". LOL
Have you ever been to the main site??? www.enterprisemission.com?
Scroll down and see some of his "degrees of ritual" stuff, or him using old 50's viewmaster slides of Tom Corbett as *proof* there's a mars face!
And Lisa wondered why Hoagland got me going so good :)

wasted many hours perusing enterprisemission.com a while back...had to spend the next day out at the local nature preserve just to feel clean again.
what a waste of bandwidth

Rift, we gotta shorten your leash a little. DON'T WORRY ABOUT HIM. Ignore him. Don't answer no matter how provacative. He's baiting you, and you're rising to it every time. The guy is a complete troll. Ignore him. There's a newbie on the other board that wants an explanation of Hoagland. I gave a "Readers Digest" version. I'd say you're the best qualified to handle this one. Lisa
