Um, I think she was refering to Piper posts. I'm responding, just not ranting at him. As far as me being the adult, both Lisa and Rift are somewhat older than I am, so how come adult falls to me I ask ya? and Rift gets a never mind! It just ain't fair I tell ya, it ain't fair. (ROTFL!)
There are a lot of people of the opinion that we should ignore the pipesqueak! I just can't let ignorance go unchallenged, something in my hard wiring I guess!

Well, no one is responding @ BABB so I'll jsut ask it here also: what happens when asteroids colide; is there an explostion or something? I would think so.

Have I suddenly become a persona non grata on this board and over on the BABB? I've posted a couple of items here recently wanting some feedback or thinking that more folks might respond and everyone here skips right by like my posts don't exist..
Whatever I did, I apologize, because I enjoy the discussions on both boards and hope I didn't do anything to offend anyone.
I am sick and tired of piper, though, and may start to agree with the Doc about feeding the troll. However, when you post something interesting or decent, just about everyone ignores it and goes straight for the hoaxer jugular!

Not in my book, I read your posts, I rarely have anything of worth to add your posts or am unsure/unable to reply in a coherent/intelligent manner. But that's primarily my lack of knowledge regarding information in your posts.

Thanks, Trish and Megan! I was beginning to think I was talking to myself today. I appreciate the kind words. Megan, you are an amazingly sensible young lady who has a terrific interest in learning - keep it up (but be careful with piper)! Trish - You make some points over on the BABB and here that leave everyone breathless because of your flawless logic. I appreciate the compliment, but I have to carefully think about everything that I write (usually), so it takes forever to make a post (I don't think I'll ever catch up with you, Rift, Lisa and Megan on this forum).

I enjoy your posts Rubysue. Think you're a valuable contributor here, and there at the BA. I see that you bring your own personal flair to discussions you enter. It is unfortunate that when you post something, as you say, interesting or decent for us to chew on, a number of us go for the junk food (Piper). Thank you Rubysue, for steering our appetites back on track.

Well I really disagree with Dr. N over this one. I think Nick would even agree with us here :)
Posting quack sites is one thing, but when they post pictures on your board you HAVE to debunk them.
I actually had fun finding that clip last night and blowing piper out of the water :)

Yeah no kidding, have you seen my latest post, I'm getting so sick and tired of him telling us the same thing over and over!

Probably would break into tiny pieces and then regroup, slowly, into a bigger asteroid... If the pieces are all going relatively the same speed and direction that is, if not you have a whole bunch of new asteroids :) Depends how fast the asteroids were going if there would be an "explosion" or not.
Asteroids probably don't collide all that often anymore. They aren't all that common. It's not like Star Wars, you could be in the middle of the asteroid belt and probably wouldn't even know it.
However, at one time the solar system probably looked very much like that scene in Star Wars. But the big asteroids sucked up all the little ones and snowballed into planets. (nice scientific jargon here)
Actually there was an old Dr Who episode where they entered a big dust cloud and found a starship at the center of a planet. The starship blundered into it, and the gravity of the starship had attracted all the asteroids and snowballed into a planet. Great story, lousy special effects, even for Dr. Who :)

Thanks Rift, you really seem to know very well about what you talk about:) But one thing, what about combustion? Wouldnt that stop an explosion, no combustion?

Rift, it was more like your post was an great big iceburg and Piper was the Titanic! The only difference is he's now 2 miles deep, buried in the mud, and still trying to get to New York.

Yup, that's why I put explosion in quotes. It's not really an explosion like we would normally think of. Just a bunch of rocks being ripped apart due to the velocity they were going. Kinda like shooting a rifle at a rock. (I saw a NOVA where they did this once, showing what would happen to a moon if it was hit by an asteroid or comet, lol)
My hero, Beakmann, defines an explosion as "something getting really big really fast" (damn I wish that show was still on, lol). Most explosions use combustion but not all of them do, popcorn popping for example (or asteroids colloding)

Good answer, Rift!
You need to be careful, though...using Dr Who to explain science ("the quest is the quest") is riding a pretty thin line!
