quote:
I guess I just have a thicker skin. Why does standing there force anothers beleifs on you? I understand that you do not beleive in religion, but military personnel simply do not have the same freedoms accorded to civilians. If the sole reason you were assembled was to pray, that is forced prayer, but if it is merely a part of some other activity, grin (or frown) and bear it. BTW did you get it stopped, are you trying? what are the repurcussions?
If you expect religious types to respect your beleifs, there must be some reciprocation, otherwise the powers that be will continue to steamroll you without any consideration of your rights.
Okay, I have my helmet on, fire at will.
When the praying starts, I sit quietly. What did you think I did, take out my drumsticks and practice riffs? Nope, just sit quietly. Their beliefs aren't mine, but I was raised to respect the beliefs of others, mind my own business, and red wine with beef. Still, I had to endure snotty remarks and a bit of harassment because I don't go into grovel mode at the words "let us pray". I'm sure these folks are the embodiment of sincerity, but their parents should be slapped. Best advice my mom ever gave me, (other than correct fork/spoon usage during a 7 courser) was: Believe nothing you hear, and half of what you see. Lisa
