Well, he signed the bill.

Despite what people have tried to do to prevent this bullshit, he did it anyway.

Let's face it, was there ever really any doubt? Though we did have to try.

Academic freedom is all well and good, so long as they've got something to teach. The Dover trial showed that they didn't.

They should make the transcripts for that trial part of the required reading for science classes so students can see that manufactured controversies can't be included in "academic freedom".

At least this way, we'll likely be able to get more court transcripts in the future for further reference.

I'd like to know where, back in the day of the Scopes trial, the people advocating "academic freedom" among the religous right were.

(I've posted the same thing on the Panda's Thumb article of the same topic)

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

They're not too smart, really, are they? This is going to cost the state dollars before it's all over, and LA can't afford that. If they've got a roll to blow, why aren't they funneling it into Katrina rebuilding or something else useful?

Oh, wait. This is Bobby Jindle we're talking about, isn't it? He's a Christian fundie, one of those who should not be allowed out without a keeper lest he becomes a menace to society. Which, evidently, he already has.

Heh, and he's on John McCain's list for VP, if what I've read is correct.

When this hits the docket, and it will, it could be even more amusing than Kitzmiller and on a much larger scale.

I think the exclamation point in the title over here means that Dembski is orgasmic about this news.

Heh, I'll just bet he is! He gets another day in court without suffering any of the embarrassment if the case gets shot down like an October grey squirrel, which, predictably I think, it will. And it will give him license to whine, whinge and bitch pitiously to the faithful without looking like an ass. Or at least no more of an ass than usual. The best of all worlds, eh?

Or so one might think. If this thing should fail dismally, might it not reflect directly upon the Discovery Institoot and their failures in the past, thereby taking away even more of their waning credibility? We shall see.

And off we go, hiegh-ho! It ain't LA but TX, as might be expected. They really need a Monkey Trial redux and it looks like they might get one.
Here Comes Another Monkey Trial…
July 2nd, 2008 at 5:12 pm

Remember Chris Comer, the science director over at the Texas Education Agency who was fired for emailing folks about an evolution event? Yesterday, she filed suit [large .pdf] against TEA in federal court in Austin. After all the negative publicity, the mocking editorials, the scorn of the education community, and now this - a serious lawsuit - firing Comer looks like the dumbest thing TEA could have done.

The suit alleges that Comer's termination violated the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution. What's interesting is how the suit reaches that conclusion:

1) Creationism is a religious belief

2) The Establishment Clause forbids the teaching of religion (read: creationism) in public schools. [The suit makes liberal reference to Kitzmiller v. Dover, the landmark 2005 case in which a conservative Bush-appointed judge rejected the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution.]

3) The Texas Education Agency has a tacit policy of “neutrality” on evolution vs. creationism.

4) The”neutrality” policy is in fact an endorsement of creationism - and religion - and is unconstitutional under the Establishment Clause.

5) Comer was fired for violating an unconstitutional policy.

Conclusion: “Comer's termination… violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution… because it has the purpose or effect of endorsing religion.”
Sooo..., will this really be as entertaining as the original? We shall see.

The comments are worth a read as well.
