There's your thousand words right there.

Nice!!!

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

I think one of the funniest things I've noticed recently is not that Palin thinks she is a foreign affairs expert based upon being able to see Russia from her house, but rather that journalists seem to accept that she can actually see Russia from there. Can't they even check a map to see if that's a fabulous lie?

Palin must have very good eyes, if she can see all the way from her residence in Wasilla, Alaska to the nearest Russian territory, Big Diomede Island in the Bering Strait. That's over 660 miles, or over 1000 kilometers, according to Google Earth.

Well, I can see Colombia my brother-in-law's grandmother's house (really see; rather unlike Mrs. Palin), therefore I am a foreign affairs consultant.

I was always of the opinion that someone at Fox News came up with this, and then it spread like wild fire. Did Palin actually say that she is "well versed" (or any synonymous term) in foreign affairs because she could see Russia?

Edit: I found a clip, and she isn't just saying she can see Russia. It's a little bit more than that. Still a bit crazy, but not bat-shit insane.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Now there's a new "meme" on Fark - using a series of clips from the VP debate to make a mini-comic. For example:
