Well, the US need the base, obviously. Where else would they put illegal prisoners to abuse without journalists bringing damning evidence immediately?
Texas?

Please. Give it to whomever will take it.

I'll take Texas, but only if I can rename it 'People's Republic of Simonia' and set up my 'no bra- no taxes' policy.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
Carl Sagan - 1996

The Mormons already have it. As long as they pay taxes and obey Federal law, they can keep it. Friggin' place is a wasteland anyway. (Pretty though).

Sure. So what?

It's origin is quite shameful, sure, but it does not affect the status quo. Or should the US also give back Oklahoma?

I think within the U.S., what the U.S. can do, is to make sure that there are no second class citizens within the U.S., without getting too deeply into problems with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, etc.

As far as Cuba, the U.S. could be an example of ethical behavior, and repeatedly, they are not, and this is just another example. They have terrorized Cuba for something like a hundred years, and they continue to rub Cuba's nose in it. Like attacking the people of Afghanistan or Iraq, or Yugoslavia, or Haiti, or Iran, etc., etc., they just don't have to be that way.

Sarcasm - enable

I agree the Bureau of Indian Affairs has major issues. There are still some Indians in our lands.
