God doesn't turn people nuts, people that are nuts turn to god.

Interesting article, interesting studies. But these studies show that "believers...endow God with their own beliefs" - I don't see anything here about those believers being "nuts". Do you? |

| I think that's implicit in their beliefs.
Your mileage my vary, depending upon your definition of "nuts." (In my mental dictionary, there are three illustration under the heading, nuts: A can of mixed nuts, a pair of human testicles, and a person kneeling to pray. |

I'm not saying that all believers are nuts. I'm saying that religion doesn't really cause people to do much in the way of evil, it simply enables those who are already crazy. I know many people of faith who are sane, rational, and good people, one is even a founder of our local skeptics group. |

There's no mention that non-theists were studied. I wonder if the results would be much different, other than non-theists wouldn't attribute their beliefs to "god". But many non-theists might attribute their beliefs to a presumably objectively correct external "force" (for lack of a better word), for example "the right thing to do" or "what thinking people would consider to be the right thing to do". The religious people just call that "god". |

It's the old, "man makes god in his own image" not the other way around as the believers think. |

| This is entirely true. On a smaller scale, I read an article a while back that stated "God's word" usually runs parallel to the believer's opinion whether it's in Scripture or not.
