"To be fair, in a sense we can't blame the Vatican for their bad press."

Sure we can. it was their choice to harbour and protect criminals. The impossible situation is one of their own creation.

Predictable, really.
Mexico bishop says porn, tv to blame for priest abuse
Miguel Angel Gutierrez and Cyntia Barrera Diaz

MEXICO CITY

Fri Apr 16, 2010 6:10pm EDTMEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A prominent Roman Catholic bishop in Mexico blamed eroticism on television and Internet pornography for child abuse by priests, in the latest incendiary comments on sex scandals in the church.

Priests and politicians, and talking heads have been tossing that hoary, old red herring about for as long as there has been electronic transfer of data. I think that we can expect more in the same vein soon.

Oh, sure, of course. I meant, and should have written, "bad press spin control." I was trying to emphasize the fact that the Vatican has put itself in a situation where brilliant spin control can't help it, and could even hurt it further.

HuffPo: arrest Richard Dawkins.

Same old, same old, really. Tyrannical communistic and fascist regimes killed millions because of atheism. What a crock.

The Vatican really has to cut the cable TV and porn budget for its priests.

So now it's porn, TV, pubescent titillators, Jews, seculars, atheists, gays and who/what else being blamed? It is almost to laugh.

I'm starting to enjoy that argument, almost as much as the one that atheists think they know everything.

Maybe the "ape-descended Dawkins" comment is a sign of progress, however. =)

Hah! Jason Brown at The Catholic Blame Game presents a seris of scapegoats that the Catholic Church has so far used to further muddy waters stirred up by their child-raping priests and pedophile-protecting prelates. Hat tip to Evolving Thoughts:
Gays

The Jews

Pornography

Television

The Internet

Pope John Paul II

Victims of child rape

So many excuses, so many points of blame. It's a time worn defense of the guilty, throw out red a herring. When that doesn't work throw another. Repeat until successful. Denial is not possible, the evidence of the abuse and cover up is over whelming. This started in the 80's in the US. Then more recently Ireland, now across Europe (germany, spain, Italy). I don't think this has peaked yet. Summertime is quickly approaching Europe. The voices of outrage will move from indoors, to the streets. People socialize in greater numbers with the warmer weather. I expect this to continue at least if not grow, as oppose to diminish, over the next 6 months. Every time anyone in the church opens their mouth, gasoline come out. SS

There are only two types of religious people, the deceivers and the deceived. SS

Whatever happened to that God-given (and the thing that ONLY God can provide) property free will? Are catholic priests totally lacking in this department?

It seems Coren has taken the "blame the Gays". route. (I know I pointed this out before, but what the hell, eh?)

The abused – mostly adolescent boys of around 12 and 13 – are the ultimate victims.

The perpetrators are generally homosexual men indulging in catamite perversion – actually not really pedophilia at all.
.

Yeah, all it takes is a few years and it's a totally different thing eh?

For fuck's sake: It's still priests buggering young boys!

And of course, as I said once before, he doesn't understand the Tu Quoque fallacy:

By the way, if you want genuine systemic abuse I recommend reading the details of public education scandals in Canada and the United States. I’m too busy to give all of the arguments here but only a fool or a bigot thinks this is a specifically Catholic problem.

I've said before in various places on that blog that at least those other cases are generally dealt with by the law once publicly exposed. Unlike with his church, whose leaders try to cover it up.

>From: enuffenuff@fastmail.fm
(excerpt follows):
> I'm looking to teach these two bastards a lesson they'll never forget.
> Personal visit by mates of mine. No violence, just a wee little chat.
>
> **** has also committed more crimes than you can count with his

> much to ****'s ignorance. That is fact and his writing will become well
> know as well as him becoming a publicly known icon of hatred.
>
> Good luck with that fuckwit. And Reynold, fucking run, and don't stop.
> Disappear would be best as it was you who dared to attack me on my
> illness knowing nothing of the cause. You disgust me and you are top of
> the list boy. Again, no violence. Just regular reminders of who's there
> and visits to see you are behaving. Nothing scary in reality. But I'd
> still disappear if I was you.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.
