As one may have heard, there are those within the repug party that there is something wrong.

"Their rigidity is killing them. It's either holy purity, or you are anathema," Tom Korologos, a premier Republican lobbyist and the ambassador to Belgium under George W. Bush, said in a phone interview. "Too many ideologues have come in. You don’t win by what they are doing."

A number of prominent figures in the Republican Party share this harsh view. Jeb Bush warned last year that both Ronald Reagan and his own father would have a "hard time" fitting into the contemporary Republican Party, which he described as dominated by "an orthodoxy that doesn’t allow for disagreement."

Quoting Jeb Bush, the article said:
All too often we’re associated with being anti-everything. Way too many people believe Republicans are anti-immigrant, anti-woman, anti-science, anti-gay, anti-worker, and the list goes on and on and on. Many voters are simply unwilling to choose our candidates, even though they share our core beliefs, because those voters feel unloved, unwanted and unwelcome in our party.

One of the potential causes of this? It's outlined in the paragraphs that start with this statement:
There is a striking correlation between the rise of conservative talk radio and the difficulties of the Republican Party in presidential elections.

As you can imagine, certain elements of talk radio don't care too much for that analysis.

Nice rant by Rush. But yeah. He's a big part of their problem.

Don't know if you care or not; it's nice to know that at least some insiders are seeing the problem: Maybe eventually it'll be dealt with.

Something terrible has happened to the soul of the Republican Party. We’ve gone beyond bad economic doctrine. We’ve even gone beyond selfishness and special interests. At this point we’re talking about a state of mind that takes positive glee in inflicting further suffering on the already miserable.

Now, some enemies of food stamps don’t quote libertarian philosophy; they quote the Bible instead. Representative Stephen Fincher of Tennessee, for example, cited the New Testament: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” Sure enough, it turns out that Mr. Fincher has personally received millions in farm subsidies.

Oh. Don't get me wrong. But they are burying themselves. I hate what they are doing but if they keep it up, it will be a very long time before they ever win the presidency again. How sad should I be that the Republican party has shot its foot off?

You should be sad because there are still many who vote Republican because they don't understand they are voting against their interest. And even more people who don't bother to vote at all.

Every time I hear the word Democracy and USA in the same sentence, I LOL because how can you truly have a democracy when a majority (or at least very close to a majority) of the eligible population won't bother to cast their vote?

Well, the "League of the South" says they can no longer work with the Republican Party, so that's what... six fewer votes?

Not only is Rush impossible for me to listen too he is also difficult to read. My take away from reading this is that he wants to disassociate conservatives from the republican party. Sure there may be political differences, but when it ultimately comes time to cast a ballot conservatives overwhelmingly vote for the candidate with the "R" by their names. I just don't see as much daylight between conservatives and republicans as Rush sees.

This is the reason I am no longer a Democrat as well.

This infection sickens both sides of the aisle. It is particularly apparent in the Republican side, but showing on the Democratic side.

We are in a world of divisiveness in party politics where any sort of comprimise is viewed as collusion with the enemy. This is pushing the Republicans further right and the Democrats further left until there is no one speaking for the middle.

Oh, George, you warned us about this crap in 1797.

There has always been a demonization of the opposite party. Somewhere during the Nixon administration, it started turning toxic. It decreased under Ford. Increased under Carter, Reagan, H W Bush. Went into hyperdrive under Clinton and the witch hunt. W Bush beat the "if you aren't with us you are against us" to fever pitch. Obama has done nothing to reduce the rhetoric as he calls for comprimise but continues demonization of the other side in the next sentance.

There has to be a third party. One that ignores social/moral issues and focuses on the basics of economics, promoting the general welfare, and securing the blessings of liberty. Goddess knows we've given up way too many of those recently.

Both parties are corporate whores. And they have gamed the system to keep any viable third parties out. Since I live in the Deep Deep South, my vote absolutely doesn't count.

I don't agree with that assessment at all. If anything the need to get bills passed has pushed the Democratic side further to the right as well. Obamacare is an example of a much more conservative health plan than any progressive would think of as best case. But they had to go with it. And it's been that way on issue after issue. One side can't do all the compromising, but that's pretty much what's been going on. So yeah. The liberal side of both houses are now in the middle on almost every issue by almost every standard.

Even the deals that have been struck have been shot down by either filibuster (somewhere around 400 of them) or an unwillingness of these so-called conservatives to bend in any way. And they aren't conservatives anyhow. They are ideologues who have trashed what it meant to be conservative from those who hold traditional conservative ideals. It's very true that even Reagan wouldn't pass their purity test as a true conservative. But he was a conservative. And to say that the Dems are pushing to be even more left wing, and are unwilling to compromise is just wrong. They are what the the middle was and there is no left unless you look at it in relative terms.

I wish I could see it like you all do. That the red states are jumping ship and/or Republican are crawling around on their knees from shooting themselves in their feet so much. I see things much differently from what I'm looking at.
Kil you think having the presidential spot is such a big deal? Well yeah, when it's filled by a Republican it is. With a this Democrat not at all. This failure we have in office now is a joke when it comes to keeping the promises he ran on. Let me ask about his biggest success to date, how is your health care coverage right now? Do you have any real coverage if you were to get cancer? Exactly how has Obama changed Washington so that it is no longer doing "business as usual"? How has he ended the deals behind closed doors that He said would stop and bring politics out into the open. OTHER than bringing out the vote, what has changed with that? How has the reproductive rights been fairing for poor women, have they been getting better over the last 5/6 years?

Democrats are called the blue party for a reason. All they can do is hold their breath turning bluer every day, dreaming and waiting for the Republicans to self destruct because Democrats are either out matched in every direction or are in the pockets of those that own Washington already.

Obama cares about global warming? FUCKING wake up! He still has that Canadian Tar Sand oil pipe line waiting for approval instead of killing it years ago. Being that it's still on the table shows me that is still more likely than not to getting approved. The American people are cooked frogs, over done.

This pre-vetted president is upholding the constitution as he swore to? Ask Snowden about that. What an idealistic delusional idiot. He threw away his life as knew it for a bunch of Americans who couldn't careless for all the good it did. What a sorry fool now, the spying on everyone has not change one iota. Like the brains of the common American, our privacy is long dead. All we have left is it's corpse so it can be said to not have been buried. There's no need to take that away, that might piss some off.

People think NPR is such a bastion of unbiased news reporting? Dream on. If that wasn't the big lie it is why would this be going on? NPR, a news source with a billionaire on it's stations board of trustees?
"Citizen Koch" provides a rare behind-the-scenes look at how big money from high dollar donors has massive influence on one of our most beloved public institutions, and on the public discourse.

Our dust particles of donations is going to get us clout with NPR, when one of their board of trustees and other HUGE donors are Billionaires and mega corporations who own Washington politicians, including our Democratic president. This president appointed a Monsanto insider to head the FDA, now that's Obama keeping his promise and changing the way things are done in Washington, wouldn't you all agree?

Those changes that all those "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrations effected are going to be kicking in any day now. What I'm trying to say there is those in power laugh at demonstrations. They laugh at the belief that if we can just tip the ballance of power in Washington just a little bit more toward the Democratic direction that things will get turned around. I don't see that being the case, even IF was to be happening as kil believes. The voters who vote are not those in power because they are not informed voters and those doing the informing get the voters how they want in sufficient numbers to keep the music playing their tune.

There are only two types of religious people, the deceivers and the deceived. SS

I didn't say Obama is perfect. Far from it. But bringing up a plan that hasn't even gone into full effect is not relevant. As I understand it, however, it is projected to lower premiums for people like me by a lot. It might even make health insurance affordable through exchanges. And it's already done a lot of good things. The Republicans in congress have tried to vote out the plan 39 times, which if actually passed would just be vetoed, but ignored the jobs bill and will probably block immigration reform. They are worse than useless.

I have been disappointed with Obama, plenty. But he can't be blamed for what red states are doing to women's reproductive rights. And that will bite the Republicans. It might even bring Texas over.

I think my assessment is correct. I don't recall expounding on how great Obama has been. But what can't be said, even though these so-called conservatives say it all the time is that he's a socialist. That's ridiculous.

Obama has been a mixed bag.

Not too bad when you consider what he's been up against. Of course, some of the promises he didn't keep are serious. But still... Imagine how it would have been if the Republicans had not declared war on Obama?

By the way. Obama does stuff and then doesn't use it much to improve his PR. That's been a failing of this administration. Terrible PR.

When the Democrats had power over both houses of the government, they closed out debate by the Republicans. The same way that the Republicans had done to them some years previously.

Subjects like gun control have been no comprimise situations on both sides.

The Republicans have been more vocal in their foot shooting, but it happens on the Democratic side as well. By not addressing the core issues of health care, we got a bloated bill that does little to control costs. The Republican alternative had some of the same measures in it but not the huge beaurocracy that this law has placed upon us. It focused on attacking a bugaboo of medical insurance companies and left Big Pharma alone.

Still better than forcing them to vote when they can't be arsed to know about politics, though. I've met people who voted on a certain candidate because a) they have to vote, b) he was hot.

That candidate was the only time we impeached a president.
