We'll see if he fares better there. Skepticality has a Reputation system where members can vote good or bad on each post, and that vote will influence reputation. Perhaps He will take impression by it.
Do we know if he's been in contact with Dave? And over at Skepticality, has he argued that the US is a de facto Communist state, yet?

Gorgo, you seem to either refuse to understand what I've written to you, or are perhaps incapable of understanding it as I have phrased it. Either way, as usual, we are running in circles and half of what you are saying makes no sense to me, and the other half sounds like a bunch of arrogant, condescending shit. I am sure you don't mean it that way, but I honestly don't feel like you have anything worth a damn to say on this topic.

Yeah, that probably goes both ways on more than one topic.

My sense, after this exchange, though, is that you're not a complete asswipe. You probably could learn to be a reasonable facsimile of a reasonable person if you had the benefit of my tutelage for several decades. (since saying I'm kidding and pasting many of the dreaded smilies all over the place doesn't convince anyone that I'm kidding, I'm going to avoid that practice today)

Gorgo, I think perhaps you are on speed or something, you are way over thinking this.

1) Some folks around here are outright rude sons-of-bitches, many times unnessisarily.

2) Some folks deserve to be treated rudely, some are just ignorant and need coddling.

3) Telling Hitler politely that you disagree with his position, wont change anything. Neither will holding hands and skiping through the forest of altruism wiping each others asses with smiles on our faces.

"...things I have neither seen nor experienced nor heard tell of from anybody else; things, what is more, that do not in fact exist and could not ever exist at all. So my readers must not believe a word I say." -Lucian on his book True History

You mean, people who call other people "fucking morons" or say "fuck you asshole" and think they're literary geniuses? I would disagree that they are sons of bitches but their actions are rude.

2) Some folks deserve to be treated rudely, some are just ignorant and need coddling.

What they deserve, and what you deserve are two different things. You deserve to think more highly of yourself than think you have to knock someone else down in order to build yourself up. Again, I'm using the word 'you' in a general sense, and not speaking of you specifically, although you specifically do deserve respect. We all do it, and we all probably always will.

Have you never been someone else's son of a bitch? Have you never been someone else's moron?

3) Telling Hitler politely that you disagree with his position, wont change anything. Neither will holding hands and skiping through the forest of altruism wiping each others asses with smiles on our faces.

Recognizing a problem and dealing with it (even in a violent manner) is different than being angry about it. What is the difference? How does it help to lie to myself about the situation? Saddam Hussein is a more recent example. If you see any difference between Saddam Hussein and George Bush, for instance, I don't understand what you think you're looking at.

Have you never taken action on something that you weren't angry about? Have you ever been angry about something and yet did nothing about it? How is anger relevant to the reality of the situation? Anger is a false belief. Not saying that everyone isn't doomed to using it, but you can use it to find your false beliefs, rather than glorify them. Or, in some cases, you can just realize that it's a learned habit that has no usefulness. Now, some people confuse determination with anger, so don't think I'm ignoring the usefulness of determination that sometimes comes at the same time as anger. Anger does not always spawn determined effort. In fact, anger is a denial of reality. It's first reaction is "on no, that can't be." Well, it is.

Again, anger and frustration are sometimes used as almost superstitious efforts to change reality. You tense certain muscles and circulate certain thoughts and mentally push that "moron" to move ahead of you in line, or to conform to your wishes on a discussion forum. It doesn't work. It's a falsehood.

Martha says it's not a lie to call someone a "fucking moron" and then she said that she really didn't believe he was literally a moron. Which is it?

She said that her frustration was not a superstitious attempt to change Jerome with her mental abilities, but what was it? Why did she think she needed it? Why isn't her own reasonable discussion and her own reasonable self enough to deal with the situation. Why did she need to add anything else to herself (almost like a cat with its hairs raised to make itself appear larger) or her position?

Literary tool? Come on.

You've never met their mothers!

Have you never been someone else's son of a bitch? Have you never been someone else's moron?
Of course I have, and many times I deserved it, or it was justified. i.e. Ive called people "idoits" before for which I received a much-deserved 'moron' in response. Though sometimes its my arguements which deserve it.
If you see any difference between Saddam Hussein and George Bush, for instance, I don't understand what you think you're looking at.
This is just silly, of course there are major differences between the two, Saddam actually knew how to control Iraq. Bush is a puppet, Saddam was a puppet master. Both however, are/were total a-holes for their own reasons.

Some people will respond to anger and insults and will not respond to hand-holding, you dont seem to grasp that. Some are just impervious like Bill, the moron!

P.S. As I have said previously, if I am being a moronic asshole, please feel free to tell me so in whatever colorful language you deem appropriate.

Edi: to make myself seem less moronic.

Given the opportunity, in the same situation, not that the Iraqis would be stupid enough to vote for George Bush, but given the opportunity, George Bush would do the same things that Saddam did to keep power. In fact, I'd say that Saddam Hussein, being in a small war-torn country beset by European and U.S. enemies, Saddam probably acted better than most of us would act.

You are stuck in a false dichotomy. Either do nothing and be some kind of superficially nice sap, or do something irrational. I don't get your difficulty with the idea.

Are you saying that this isn't a legitimate discussion? I'm confused.

Are you saying this as a moderator? Do you feel something is out of line?

Please clarify your position.

What Val said....

Actually, the whole thing has turned into a very dull and repetitive read.

Well, fine, in fact it has ended. It's always a little funny when the repetive, dull requests to shut up are made by people who could easily ignore the thread, and often when the thread ended by itself. Val and someone else protested something earlier that they clearly didn't understand, so I wonder if he's even read anything that has been written.

This is a philophical discussion, just as legitimate as any other. The fact that it's difficult for some to comprehend does not make it less legitimate. If this type of discussion is not legitimate, and he's acting as moderator, I'd like to know why so I don't do it again. If he's just some guy that really doesn't understand what's going on and wants to complain about people doing what they want to do, then I think he can just go away.

When I get bored by you guys droning on and on about things that I don't care about, do I complain to you, or do I go on to other threads?

I usually do the same and have, beyond a casual look-in now & again, pretty much abandoned this one.

Damn Gorgo, it's become all but circular and stessful to my attention span. But carry on, carry on; I don't have to like it, do I?
