Perhaps the smiley face threw you off. But if you want to be an asshole I guess I can't stop you.

You did just call something like 60% of the population nutjobs.

What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. About 60% vote for one or the other. Maybe I valued up a bit, at least 50%. Your claim assumes that this amount votes for a nutjob and thus their ideas are in the realm of "nutjob" ideas.

I am now leaving this discussion. I suggest you re-read what I posted because you didn't get it. You also assume that I mean ALL Libertarians and Republicans are nutjobs. I said "a nutjob" (perhaps you are projecting). Again, re-read and step out.

Hey, sorry. I was just pointing out that there was no need to call a responder an asshole.

Maybe I should have been more direct.

No hard feelings.

Woah, calm down guys. pleco just made a sarcastic remark and it was interpreted as serious. On a forum where neither tone nor facial expression is possible, this happens quite often. Now, back to making fun of the websites.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Given the obvious evidence of Mr. Mercer's rambling incoherence, I can only conclude that he is actually Dubya in disguise, trying to get around term limits by switching parties.

60% nutjobs.....

Y'know what; that just might be open to discussion.

Why, for instance, do so many of us keep acting against their own best interests? Or listen to lying scumbags like James Dobson?

I wonder if a mere 60% might a light estimate.

67. To Prove these perpetrators are trying to stop me from running for President of The United States. They are Vice-President Dick Chenny, Former Vice-President Al Gore and their Assessors. They keep killing my mother and our family the evidence is on my mother's and our Criminal Intelligence Electronic Surveillance Health Recorder. I do not want these perpetrators to kill my Mother.

Well, the definition of a nutjob is "person who is regarded as eccentric or mad".

I don't consider my parents and most of the rest of my family "nutjobs", and they are religious and conservative. I think they are incorrect on a great many things, however. To them, I am the nutjob. I'm sure my mother thinks it is just phase... that has lasted for 20 years.

That is why I chose the word "nutjob" since it (in my opinion) narrows down the population somewhat.
