Here's John Scalzi's take on Ham's Creation Museum. It's an excellent read! ON THE CREATION MUSEUM By John Scalzi
Here's how to understand the Creation Museum:
First, imagine, if you will, a load of horseshit. And we're not talking just your average load of horseshit; no, we're talking colossal load of horsehit. An epic load of horseshit. The kind of load of horseshit that has accreted over decades and has developed its own sort of ecosystem, from the flyblown chunks at the perimeter, down into the heated and decomposing center, generating explosive levels of methane as bacteria feast merrily on vintage, liquified crap. This is a Herculean load of horseshit, friends, the likes of which has not been seen since the days of Augeas.
And you look at it and you say, “Wow, what a load of horseshit.”
But then there's this guy. And this guy loves this load of horseshit. Why? Well, really, who knows? What possesses someone to love a load of horseshit? It's beyond your understanding and possibly you don't actually want to know, even if you could know; maybe it's one of those “on that path lies madness” things. But love it he does, and he's not the only one; the admiration for this particular load of horseshit exists, unaccountably, far and wide. There are advocates for this load of horseshit.
| I have got to get out there and see this wonderful load of horseshit for myself. Maybe next spring....

I want to see the creation museum, too, but the real one, outside. The one with room for not millions, but even billions of years. The one with a scale of deep space and time in which Moses, Jesus, even Ken Ham, are all but invisible footnotes in a vast panorama of stellar and biological evolution, painted in stardust upon a limitless canvass of black velvet.
Or better yet, I could go to Disneyland.

| Disney's become a marketing shit hole even when you spend a big pile of money. Keep it a once in a lifetime event.
Except for that journey to Mars ride that actually uses a centrifuge to give the illusion of riding an accelerating space craft. That was really cool, even despite the motion sickness (I had a near toss-your-guts nausea moment when I got off but it cleared up).
Oh, and the ethnic restaurants in Epcot are very nice - great food and great entertainment - but you have to make reservations sometimes weeks in advance. Which sucks if you're disorganized like me.
And then there's the Hoopty Doo Review which is a lot of fun, especially for the kids.
Oh, and Typhoon Lagoon has an awesome wave pool that shoots out 6 foot waves in 60 second intervals. Tons of fun...
And don't let your 6 year old on the Tower of Terror, even if she is tall enough. She'll never trust you again when it comes to rides. |

Obviously, Ken Ham didn't hire Filthy as an adviser on the venom issue, so paying visitors get useless bullshit instead of Filthy's fine venom essay.

I wonder what female mosquitoes drank to feed their eggs Before The Fall(tm)?
I wonder what the Venus Fly Trap or Pitcher Plant ate?
The list of questions like these is almost endless.
I don't recall in the Bible anywhere saying that massive biological changes happened to many, many animal and plant species after Adam fucked up.
Sounds like the Bible literalists are dong a lot of "interpreting" of what happened. Just like activists judges that they can't stand unless they interpret something they like. |

| Wow. I can't believe how absurd this is -- people playing make believe on this scale is amazing. It would be different if they didn't know any better or they were stupid. But we're not talking about stupid, ignorant people. This is the willfull embracing of fantasy, mystical fiction, myth despite it's having been completely controverted by reasonable, reproducible, empirical evidence. WTF?
This fundamental capability (screwball flaw?) of the human mind is the source of all the world's problems. No matter how reasonable, how wonderful, how workable, how whatever your idea/plan is, there's always going to be a large portion of humanity that is just going to refuse to accept it. And many of those will be willing to kill/die over it. Again. W-T-F? |

The Creation Museum should be considered a national treasure, and preserved as it is for posterity.
Because our descendants might otherwise never believe mere history texts that described this strange phenomenon. I don't want the Creationism Deniers of the future to be able to say it didn't happen.

I wonder if H.G. Wells and his 'Time Machine' sheepal-eating Morlocks started out in present-day as Creationists. Hm...food for thought.
p.s....Halfmooner, there's a comic strip in here for you somewhere. |

Yeah, I read Scalzi's review earlier today, courtesy of a PT entry. Pretty much spot on. Collosal load of horseshit.... couldn't have said it better.

I can't help but think of all of the deluded kids that are going to be asking the dumbest questions in Biology, chemistry and earth science high school classrooms becasue of this crap. There is going to be so much time wasted.

| I agree. Why can't ignorance simply be a lack of knowledge, instead of active anti-science? Okay, I suppose I know the answer: It wouldn't be religion, if it were simply a lack of knowledge.

They could believe it. I certainly don;t believe that they have anyone's interest (aside from their own) in mind.
My preferred interpretation is that they are just continuing the grift that got started here in the US during the depression. These "evangelical" assholes have been stealing money from the poor for almost a century, and this is just the latest face of the scam.
They have come a long way from being carnies and travelling grifters running "tent revivals" and "roadside faith healings".
