Hey Bill, regarding your last post, did you wake up on the wrong side of your cradle this morning? Is there a prize for being the biggest curmudgeon and do you think that we might have some sway with the nominating committee? Did that skin tag in your arm pit start bothering you just when you ran out of ibuprofen?

Wow. Someone asks Heins what kind of motor is in Heins' electric drill (induction, synchronous, DC or universal), and Heins replies, "An electric one." Then almost 12 minutes later posts the manufacturer's info off the drill's label.

In other words, he couldn't answer the question, or even guess. Even if his first response was a joke, his second response was basically "you figure it out." Heins is claiming that he sees this "effect" whether he uses his big induction motor or his electric drill, but he doesn't care one whit about the construction of the drill's motor.

Remember that sound Porky Pig made? The one that sounded like "a-bleeba-bleeba-bleeba"? That's what my brain started doing when I read that. Were I Dr. Zahn, I would change my advice to "don't even try to perform the measurements I recommended. You have no hope of doing it correctly".

Seriously, you can't do an accurate measurement of power drawn from an AC source unless you understand the distinction between watts and VARs and how to measure each. Anyone who doesn't know that hand-held electric drills usually have a series-wound commutator motor while drill presses usually use an induction motor is extremely unlikely to know the difference between true and apparent power in an AC circuit.

As I said in an earlier post, it sounds like he's another Joe Newman in the making.

Sorry to have rattled your Ivory Doors, Kil, but I went to considerable trouble to do a difficult thing for me - hold out an olive branch! I got olive pits spit back at me! The few times I've seen your feathers ruffled, I haven't noticed you adopting the restraint of a saint in response! So what's with the cradles and skin tags? Just a Whole Lot of Me began, as I pointed out, with quite a bit of snarling. I wrote a comparatively beatific reply, he eventually seemed to get off his pedestal of persuasability and become slightly skeptical. I praised him and damn near apologized (difficult!) finally asking, let's make nice? and what do I get? A load of shit! You want me to turn the other cheek? OK, wait til I drop my pants.

Bill-

I didn't mean what I said in response to your post in the spirit that you clearly received it. That's my fault for not being clearer.

I do appreciate everyone welcoming me here in their own way, including you.

Perhaps if you stop chasing me around this thread for a bit some common ground will evolve naturally.

You're dead right, K'Bios, I don't think this primitive knows the difference between ground neutral and ground effect, hysteresis and hysteria, or induction and deduction! I'm surprised he hasn't gotten his johnson tangled up in the all that wiring spaghetti and received an electrocircumcision by now!

Gosh, I'm sorry. I figured you had a pretty good sense of humor. And there is some evidence to support that. But after some time and several re-readings of the offending post, I can now see how you might have taken it the way you did. It took some doing though...

The really spooky part is how much it reminded me of one of your posts. Go figure...

Nothing wrong with the funnybone. It just gets fractured when I perceive an insulting rebuttal of an honest attempt at reconciliation - kind of like you and Reginald. If I were you, I would have pissed all over that, to borrow a phrase, pompous ass!

Anyway, Just Me has apologized Just Now, and it behooves me to do the same! We're going to run out of Olive trees, soon!

Fair enough, JM!
Making up is hard to do! Now that you've noticed the transparency of the Thane's clothes, you're not a viable lure anymore, anyway!

Actually, that shared dirt you mention is a real possibility! I, too, am a secret dreamer! But I have had enough correspondence over the years with James Randi, Penn Jillette, and - some time ago - Martin Gardner that I hedge my speculative bets pretty carefully!

Someday, if you want a real hoot, check out my first (UFO) thread here. That's when I got my first measure of these guys, and decided that it was a fun playground!

Not any post in particular. It was funny, well written, and with the kind of sarcasm (though unlike you I did not detect any malice) that often show up in your posts.

And hey, I apparently understood it as he intended it to be understood. So I called grumpy on you.

You have my permission to call grumpy on me, or whatever it is that you suspect I am being, when you think I have misread a post. Okay?

Fair is fair…

In the interest of accuracy, those who have done so must stop calling me he.

And I haven't changed my position, and am a bit confused as to why people think I have?

Did you know that Richard Dawkins and I both had the very same experiment performed on us via something called the 'God Helmet'? It's true. Only he did it for science, and I was just grubbing for marks. We both failed. Or passed! Or something.

Shit! Now you've made me feel like a boor, as well as a bore, and really sexist in my crass assumption of your masculinity! Maybe it was the brass balls! (I don't use Smilimbeciles, JMª, but please insert a smile here)

I thought it clear enough. I did say "pee my pants", a decidedly girly thing to say, and openly admitted I knew less than nothing about something. Didn't think I'd have to hit anybody over the head with a well read user manual.

Interestingly, you referenced me in the feminine the first time. Then somebody honoured me with an optimistic man of the year award, and it was all he all the time after that.

I am so not giving my award back. So nobody even ask.
