Has anyone seen 10,000 BC(E) yet? I, figuring that it was probably more of the usual, haven't. But our friends at AiG have and want to tell us all about it. Its merits as a cinematic spectacle aside, Roland Emmerich's 10,000 B.C. offers a good opportunity to take a look into what the world might have been like a few centuries after the dispersion at Babel.
The film, starring the young Steven Strait as tribesman D'Leh, has grand leanings that link together action and adventure with a love story. D'Leh's mammoth-hunting tribe (the Yagahl), already down on its luck, is attacked by “four-legged demons” (a horde of horsemen) who capture most of the tribe, including D'Leh's love interest, Evolet (Camilla Belle). D'Leh and a few others set out in pursuit, encountering new lands, new tribes, and, eventually, the new empire their enslaved tribesmen are now serving.
It has most of the makings of a wannabe epic, including a full-bodied orchestral score, a few dramatic warrior speeches, and computer-generated effects throughout. The film's simple plot, with relatively little nuance and less than two hours to develop, along with bits of lowbrow humor, remind us that the film's target audience is probably adolescents. Indeed, the theater I attended was filled with males of such age with their fathers, eager to watch the tribesman battle CGI mammoths along with plenty of sword and spear fights.
I was also on the lookout for any sort of evolutionary indoctrination the film might carry, especially given its date of six millennia before the date the Bible gives as the dawn of humanity. Would this film be just another opportunity for Darwinists to subtly inject their worldview through a Hollywood blockbuster?

That's hilarious!
The Creo peckerwoods obviously haven't been reading the comments from science types, who are shuddering at the silly anachronisms (and geographic absurdities) of the film.
In 10,000 BCE, Stone Age primitives supposedly trek from Siberia to Egypt, to find cities and pyramids already built and steel weapons. Silly. This popular movie can do nothing but slightly retard the viewer, and has nothing to do with the evolution/creation debate.
On the other hand, Creationists are so paranoid, they probably think disgust with a bad fantasy movie is itself just a sneaky way for "naturalist" scientists to pretend they are not in on a subversive plot with Hollywood. I hope they won't notice that the soundtrack, run backwards, is a recitation of Origin of the Species.

this film is basically GRAPE APE. A big retarded cartoon. I really can't believe it's ultimately about a plot to build the pyramids of Giza by a decrepit alien Atlantean…. Re-fucking-Tarded.

After checking out that review, I dunno. Sometimes I am guilty of picking the nit until it bleeds. Maybe I'll rent it after all, or better yet, get one of the kids to rent it so's I won't be associated with it beyond Innocent Bystander status.
I didn't understand that this was "B" sci-fi/fantasy rather than an attempt at a portrayal of the lives & times of relativly recent hunter- gatherers. Which is a pity, really; one hell of a good action flick could be done with that and no need for calling in -- a space-faring Atlantian was it? I have no problem with the psychic granny 'cause those were a part of the times (and, sadly, ours). Nothing wrong with a little honest superstition in the plot.
All which makes AiG's apologetics sillier than ever. "Post Babal" indeed!
With Raquel starring it would be a must-see, nonsense not withstanding!

Yeah, its a fantasy/sci-fi flick. Apparently the effects and CGI are top notch, but the "plot" can't hold air (say nothing of water), and the acting is below even "b" movie status.

| Note, 10k BC was directed by the same guy that brought us The Day After Tomorrow and Independance Day. When I heard that, I didn't have to see a review of the film, much less buy a ticket, to know it was stupid as hell. |

That´s exactly what I think everytime I watch a movie like this, or a pirate movie or some movie about spartans.
A historically accurate story would be as (or even more) entertaining/interesting than some far fetched crap.
Imagine watching a REAL good pirate movie? Awsome!
Or as you stated above, the portrayal of recent hunter- gatherers. Exellent!!
There is no necessity to call in all the totally unbeliavable crap that these types of movies generally have.

I loved that. Clearly, music did not evolve slowly, but by extremely punctuated equilibrium. Within seconds, several musical instruments were invented, melody dreamed up from nothing, percussion created (including sophisticated syncopation), and on and on, all in one brief jam.
It may have helped that they had Ringo Starr on hand to leaven their creative talent pool.
