I would like to take a moment to point out some of the features available on this forum to all that join.
My SFN This page helps you keep track of Topics you have started and are participating in as well as another place to check Private Messages and customize settings such as your own color scheme.
Events Calendar Any member may add events to the calendar. Some good suggestions are lectures, TV programs, radio shows or perhaps chat sessions. It's up to you.
Polling. Any forum member can create a poll. I would love to see some good ones so that I can select them as feature polls and get my stupid test one off of here ; ) Please help me out!
Profiles The profiles have many capabilities including photos. At the top there is a link to a page that allows you to upload a photo. The best format is 150 x 150, but any photo that is at least square will still look good. If you have something that needs altering, go ahead and email it to me (atomic@skepticfriends.org) and I will make it fit the format. It can be anything you want...a cartoon, animated GIF...whatever!
Avatars Avatars are a lot like the photos only smaller and are intended to show up in forum posts. There are several to choose from and personal ones can be sent in and reserved by administrators for a specific user. So no one else will use it and it won't even show up in the list.
Private Message(PM) with PM Pager Upon becoming a member you get a sort of mailbox that allows you to message other forum members. If you leave the User Pager open(link on top) new messages will open automatically much like a messenger. This will only happen if the Pager is used. Messages will be automatically deleted after 30 days!
Super Search No more doing a seach and just getting the Topic your result is in. Now the search ferrets out the specific post containing the word or term you searched for.
Report to Moderator On each post is a link that says "Report." Clicking this brings up a form that sends a note and link off to moderators in case something is posted in the wrong spot or should not even have been posted at all.
Bookmark a Topic It is now possible to "Bookmark" topics for easy access to often visited topics.
More features are to come and I will get these onto a FAQ page so that everyone knows about them.

How do you get the cool picture of the atom below your name? Is there a choice or link box for that in the profile-editing page? Also, is there a feature that allows Internet Explorer to remember my username and password whenever I go to post something? I know that your original board did this.
Anyhow I just read your favorite quote in your profile. I absolutely love that movie and the two originals before it. Well then again, just about anything done by Sam Ramie and Rob Tapert rules.

The atom is from an a setting admin can make for titles. Like SFN Staff or Starting member. Send me one and I will add it. There is a modification I can make to the forum so that it can be done by every member. Give me time. The forum should remember passwords. They can become corrupted, especially the first time you come. I've seen it happen before. The cookies also seem to prefer Internet Explorer as a browser.

Ok I looked at my cookie for this board and it said nothing of my username or password. It said something about a poll and a bunch of cryptic numbers. I moved it to a separate folder so I could see if a new one will work.
As for a picture under my name, I'll search around and try to find a cool one. At the time I was mostly just curious.

Crime Wave was the movie Raimi and Campbell made after the first Evil Dead movie. It's a silly comedy and one of the best Raimi ever did.

Wow I can't believe I've never heard of it. I'll have to check that out. My first exposure to anything Raimi/Tapert related was when Hercules the legendary journeys debuted on Saturday afternoon television in the "Action Pack". It wasn't until later that I saw Army of Darkness and then Evil Dead 2 and was hooked. Since then I've liked anything that was directed by Raimi.
It is too bad that Campbell's new show called the Jack of All Trades wasn't successful; it was really funny and I was just starting to get past the bad history and strange... umm stuff. I still laugh when I think about the shockwave explosion in one of the episodes.
Anyhow, about the cookie, whether it was there before or not, I noticed a login message at the top of the screen and now I no longer need to enter anything. If that was there before then I feel stupid. |

Yes logging in would definately help, but without logging in you wouldn't even see a respond to post link. I did make some changes to the code that may or may not have helped.
Whatever it is, I'm just glad it's working for you now.

Yeah I was trying to come up with a signature and I thought an excerpt from one of my favorite KMFDM songs would be cool. It's neat that you recognized it. |

Today I added a feature called "Private Messages"
Take a guess what it does
It could sort of work like an instant messenger, just a bit slower since it's not a proper chat client.
I have also added an audio alert(sorry about the volume during testing!) and am working on having messages pop up to more closely mimic instant messaging.

Today added a SpellChecker. Look on the post message form for the "ABC" button. It's not perfect, but it will spot a lot of errors.

Who needs sleep?
Added a modification so that if desired, one can call up a printer friendly page and save gobs of paper.

Are you trying to tell me that people actually print stuff.
At least the spell checker can spell colour.
But it seems to think the IUPAC can't spell aluminium.

it's hard to tell if anyone prints here, but i do it all the time one various message boards, especially when it's a very long post.
The spell checker could be better, so don't count on it finding everything. It will, however, find many simple errors.

Well the fellow that developed the messaging is almost done with the new version. It is really cool and has to be seen to be believed! Hopefully, I can get that working tonight.

If you leave the "User Pager" open(link at the top) incoming messages will open automatically much like an incoming message on AOL or other messengers. Reply to needs some work, but that waits for another day.
