I firmly believe that the world's been going downhill since the late Devonian. Our species is here to finish it off. Evolution sucks.
Is that why the ID dingbats are trying so hard to further screw up what educational standards we have left?

Well, I've heard that each generation dislikes the previous ones music. They certainly wanted to burn rock and roll records and Elvis was banned. (as a side note, rap crap is not music but the other stuff of today that could pass as being able to listen to, is trash also). Anyway, other than that I did respect my mothers generation and what they went through. I even have books on how to make soap, etc., things that I don't believe many people know about today. Of course there was the Teapot Dome scandal (speaking of Enron. Hum! History repeats itself??) and all the way back in time I know there were many others but those are not the personal every day ethics I'm talking about. Yes, perhaps there are some in any given generation who either praise or disreguard the previous one but looking back to the last couple of generations, past mine even, it really seems to me besides the few intelligent ones above the crowd there are far more now than in the past who are further below a competent standard of understanding. |

My bet is that you're simply better able to spot incompetence than you used to be. It is, after all, a skill which requires practice. For example, looking back at some of the people I remember having respect for as a kid, they're not quite so hot anymore. And they haven't even been newsworthy for 20 years (or, for some of them, ever), so it's not like they're the ones that changed.

"ID dingbats"?? They are anything but "dingbats"; probably some of the smartest folks in the U.S. and certainly amoung the most influential. Perhaps instead of just "id" I should have typed "id Software".

Do I?? The first time I heard it was in January '73 and I can still picture the surroundings as if it were yesterday. Sigh.
About education. I'm afraid that I have to agree with filthy's comments above:quote: I firmly believe that the world's been going downhill since the late Devonian. Our species is here to finish it off.
In particular, the last few generations of the U.S. kids----who have been turned into species (or even class) destroyers by the education systems of the 50 States (--as well, I suppose, of the various ed systems of the District of Absymal Slimebags, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands).
It's, I'm afraid, as GA Douglas MacArthur once warned, "too late, too late, too late".
(Who me? Hopelessly sour? Nooooo! Well, maybe just a little.)

Well, you'd loose....when do I get my money?
I don't know who your idols were but some of mine were The Lone Ranger, Sherlock Holmes, Charley Chan and Crusader Rabbit. They will always be, IMO brave, honest and trustworthy.
As for practice, I guess each person sees something in a different way. I have not changed since I formed my ideas of the world at age 10. I remember nothing from before I was 7, although my mother, as I've mentioned before, told me I said there was no god when I was 3. Then from 7 to 10 everything I learned from observation formed my beliefs. There were a few times between 10 and 15 and then again at 18-21 when I gained some new knowledge after studying certain philosophies but that's about it. People have always in general seemed stupid to me, and at 10 years old I recognized that I needed to 'talk down' to them because they didn't understand. If anything, now I don't have the knowledge I used to. Like that scene in 'They Might Be Giants' where the elderly couple had been staying in their apartment for years and had no contact with the modern world, I too strive to isolate myself from the outside. So it would be difficult to practice understanding people when I don't get out much. If you only knew how I'm getting ripped off. (Oh to have that mind of a 10 year old again) |

Dangit. Okay, um, you can come to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and pick up your money. Around 2 in the morning good for you?

Cool! I've been wanting to take a trip back east anyway. AND since I'm probably on the FBI list too, 2am will be no problem, they'll know I'm coming. |
