Two things:
1: Can we still post in the other Bad Astronomy Bitch Board? Or is it locked?
2: I was just over at BABB and Megan had asked a question. A few people had answered her question and I noticed JW's post as the latest one, right underneath Megan's original question. The amazing thing is, he didn't flame her. He actually responded in a nice and(almost) polite manner. Conspiracy? Maybe...maybe not...you decide.

That's the reason the original topic was "Bitch Board 01". We knew that eventually we'd need an "02". The "original" original had several hundred posts before @tomic graciously gave us our own folder. (Thanks, @)
I noticed everyone had given Megan some really good answers to her question. This will serve two purposes: 1) She'll understand more about our solar system, the galaxy, and universe, and 2) JW's crap will disappear off the bottem of the board that much quicker

Yes, a general all-hands-on-deck Piper alarm has been sounded!!! The supreme jackass of the universe is back to torture us with his sick delusions and utter nastiness. It took all of my strength of will to avoid blasting him into oblivion with the flame of the century. lbjrs bravely took him on, however [lbjrs: you will regret making any kind of response to Piper - now the BABB will be filled with the same stupid pictures demonstrating his delusions for the next two weeks].
My days visiting the BABB are numbered, I'm afraid. My blood pressure can't stand the torment! I have come to the conclusion, after reading the latest rounds of unparalleled idiocy, that the stupid gene is clearly winning the natural selection evolution game and Homo Sapiens are doomed.

Sorry to say, you might be right. I would like to have seen the "flame of the century" but, personally, I am not going to respond to this masochistic baboon again, at least for now.
I really think it is time for the numerous victims of the conspira-lie industry to explore legal remedies. For many years, corporations and public figures have pursued a policy of ignoring cranks. Until recently, this was probably wise; few of them had enough money to be worth suing, and trying it would just dignify their craziness and bring the fascist baboons more of the exposure they crave. This has changed now. Scum like Bart Sibrel are growing wealthy on the moon hoax, not to mention the pimps and hookers at Fox and Nash Entertainment.
The First Amendment does not protect libel, slander, and defamation. HB claims in particular are defamatory on their face. They implicate many hundreds of companies and thousands of individuals in a criminal conspiracy. It is time for the hoax scum to justify their accusations in a court of law or shut the hell up. It would take only one good judgement to significantly improve the level of public discourse in this country.
I am not a lawyer, but I did happen to win a libel action a few years ago. I had been scheduled to visit a local school to talk about careers in science. In an official (and widely circulated) report, a teacher objected to the visit, claiming that I was a UFO crank who would fill the kids' heads with wild stories about "alien visitations". She might as well have accused Madalyn O'hair of coming there to preach the Christian Gospel, but this was more than a misunderstanding. The report was riddled with misleading half-truths and misquotes from my work, demonstrating that the teacher was familiar enough with my work to know the truth. For instance, a story about a ufo hoax became "a book about alien visitation". The visit was cancelled and other cancellations soon followed. The teacher refused to talk to me, her principal interrupted constantly and droned on as though her statements were proven facts. Similarly, the assistant superintendant tried to lecture me about "controversial" material. It turned out that the teacher involved was a high-profile fundy and creationist, which created a malicious motive for her lies since she and the school could not bar me simply for supporting evolutionary theory.
When I threatened to file suit, the school district tried to invoke sovereign immunity even though this doctrine does not apply to defamatory statements by an individual employee. The teacher tried to claim that she had simply misunderstood my position, my lawyer suggested that she was therefore confessing illiteracy and should resign at once. We were also challenged to prove that she knew the allegations were false. In Texas, a statement is defamatory if the defendant either knew that it was false or reasonably could have known. This is the legal doctrine of reckless disregard for the truth, willful ignorance is not an excuse. We only had to prove that she reasonably could have known, which was obvious in her claims. Somebody (probably the school's insurance company) advised them that they didn't have a case, and that a trial would be an excruciating embarrassment. I settled for legal costs and lost income. The teacher was reprimanded but not fired. She had also been reprimanded a few years earlier for spreading outrageous lies during an outbreak of satanic panic.
I would die for the First Amendment, but I think we have gone too far in extending its protection to forms of expression it clearly was not intended to protect, and that are not protected in any context outside the conspira-lie world. There is plenty of legal precedent for defamation judgements against those making false claims of criminal behavior or professional malfeasance.

I'm afraid I may be beginning to agree with you, Piltdown. This has passed beyond harmless delusional behavior from a few insane cranks and into the realm of public policy and the irresponsible behavior of mass media trying to make a "quick buck" from unadulerated libel.
I'm not sure if I read it here (perhaps from you, Piltdown) or it was in an article by Michael Shermer, but apparently, Buzz Aldrin was addressing a group of teachers (NEA) and had to deal with their very vocal concerns about how the kids in their classes doubted the moon landings. He was apparently visibly upset and quite angry about these allegations (who wouldn't be, if a group accused you of living a lie your whole life?) and has since dimissed the Sibrel crap publicly on CNN. I understand that some of the other Apollo astronauts that are still alive are also beginning to fight back, including the fact that Neil Armstrong released a press statement condemning the hoax show.

I think the worst "claim" and the one that would be the easiest to take to court would be the allegation that NASA/govt/whatever murdered Grissom et al. Murder is a serious charge, and I think the person(s) making this charge should be held accountable. IMO, these hoaxers are doing nothing but making a buck off the tragic loss of three fine and brave astronauts. It's sickening.

Help me out, folks!! I consider this a personal threat from Piper. This flaming asshole has again crossed the line from stupid and annoying to criminal and libelous behavior in my opinion. I can't count the times Piper has posted responses that can only be perceived as threats. Is there some way we can report this to law enforcement?
I'm so mad right now that I can hardly type. As many of you know, I work in the space program and have had many colleagues involved in Apollo and other NASA programs. I am getting bloody well fed up with being accused of being a liar, conspirator and murderer.

The ideal course would be a class action suit with all the high-profile HBs and their corporate sponsors as defendants. A few low-profile ones, like Piper, could be tossed in as well, since it can be demonstrated that he is, in fact, acquainted with the truth, but continues to post defamatory messages with reckless disregard for this.
The plaintiff class could be made arbitrarily large, including anyone who would necessarily have had direct knowledge of the reality of the Apollo Project, or could have determined it positively after the fact. I believe that our hero, the BA himself, has been defamed by constant and provably false claims that he is a government agent, mentally ill ("in denial"), professionally incompetent, or dishonest in his analysis of material that he is undeniably qualified to analyze. How about it, Phil? You and the rest of the scientific community should own Fox, Nash, Bart Sibrel, and all the other libel profiteers. Sibrel should be driving a cab or shoveling manure. Ralph Rene should have to go back to carpentry, assuming of course that he can lose enough weight to climb the ladder.

First of all, there's plenty of good honest cab drivers and stable operators. I don't think either group would accept Piper into their ranks.
Rubysue, I could practice writing for a hundred years and never be as eloquent as you are, but I added my two cents worth over there anyway.
It's sad that Piper and JW are back, the board had really kicked into educational mode before this. I wish if Computer Org was going to hang around, he'd quit egging them on. At least that Chris guy seems to be the post and run variety. Don't think we'll see him again.

I've made a difficult decision today.
I have posted my last message on the BABB. I cannot tolerate the accusations, the nastiness, and the stupidity any longer.
Any attempts I made in the past to defuse the situation with other more interesting subjects or humor have not worked. Now I've been drawn into a nasty personal exchange with Piper (something I've studiously tried to avoid in the past - maybe the full moon is getting to me, too). To be honest with everyone here, Piper scares the living hell out of me - IMHO he is an Internet stalker who could likely resort to violence to make his point. My email address is a real one, not some chickens*%t hotmail account like his, so he can probably track me down, too (and, no, I'm not being paranoid - too many people are borderline or legitimately insane and dangerous and the Internet lets them have an unfettered soapbox for their ravings).
How sad! Just like the space.com board, the idiots are driving away the folks with real questions and good information.
Thanks for your help, by the way.

My apologies to cab drivers and to stable operators. Sibrel and Piper certainly could not be trusted to operate a car, nor are they likely to have the physical attributes to handle a shovel. They should be shoveled as manure.

Don't despair Rubysue. According to your own calculations, he'll be gone soon. I'm not afraid of the guy. Even friends I give detailed maps and instructions to my house can't find it.(Okay, once you've turned off of the paved road...)
