Piltdown, that was awesome! You have more guts than I will ever have. Excellent stuff - I salute you.
I meant what I've said in my last message above and the message I've just posted to Phil over on the BABB - I'm through with these idiots. My personal health and mental well-being can't stand this type of stressful interchange on a regular basis. I'm going back to playing games on my computer.

Don't despair Rubysue. According to your own calculations, he'll be gone soon. I'm not afraid of the guy. Even friends I give detailed maps and instructions to my house can't find it.(Okay, once you've turned off of the paved road...) Oh Piltdown, did you have to give Piper the SFN address. What on earth will we do if he shows up here? Hey wait, let's turn Slater loose on him Lisa

I WANT him to show up here. We got on the perilous edge of the BA's rules today, the rules are, um, a bit different here. If he really is crazy enough to go to someone's house, I also want him to choose mine. It's easier for me since I don't have children. I have some experience with this, having been threatened by neo-nazi wackos at one point. The moon hoax shitheads are wimps by comparison.

Well we do have Megan over here and she's only 14. That's no problem, when she gets pissed she can be as bad as all of us put together. Where on earth did she get that smart mouth. Oh, I remember, hanging out with Ed and I and her folks.
I couldn't help it, I responded to Piper again. I gave him the same treatment the BA gave JW. Name names. Look, saying "NASA" is lying covers a lot of territory. If he has done all the research he claims, he should be able to come up with the names of a few culprits, yes? I'll even save him the trouble of confronting these people personally. I will gladly spend the $.34 to mail these accusations to the blackguards. Lisa

Dare we hope? Looks like Pi(m)per is losing his cool, ("put up or shut up") hee hee. This is about as acrimonious as it gets, so I suspect that BA will delete the string. As long as Pi(m)per is sent away with his tail between his legs, that's fine with me.

Hmmm... I may have done a stupid thing. I deleted those threads. Now there is no record of what happened. I apologize if this causes trouble later, but I did it before coming here to read what was being said. Damnation. Well, we see what Piper says and does. If things get a little wacko, I'll leave the posts be, or back them up into a file and delete the thread after.

Good grief, both JW AND Piper ::shudders::
Looks like I missed some high level flaming. Never saw the deleted posts.
I'll miss you Rubysue, but can't say I blame you. I've stopped posting over there as much as I use to, and I'm getting to the point of not reading most of the threads that JW responds to.
I HOPE that this is simply a very vocal minority of idiots on the web. I've never read the Space.com forums, but not surprised to hear the morons have taken it over. One of my other interests is Egyptology, and believe it or not, the forum of one of the best egyptology sites was taken over by the 'aliens did it' faction, and it got so bad that they closed the forum down. The didn't really have any other choice, so out goes the real science with the baby and the bathwater... The worse thing is kids like Megan who have real questions won't get real answers now...
I'm starting to think that these idiots can't be stupid enough to actually believe this bunkum, but just post it out of boredom and to get our dander up. This is probably high entertainment to Piper... ::sighs::
Reminds me of my favorite quotes (would be my sig, but it's a might long)
"Goddammit! The world is just filling up with more and more idiots! And the computer is giving them access to the world! They're spreading their stupidity! At least they were contained before--now they're on the loose everywhere!"? Harlan Ellison, The Onion

Incidentally, my webhost has implemented the PHP protocol, which means I can get the BB software I want. It'll be a while before I can get it installed and running, but when I do it means everyone has to apply for an account, and if they displease me I can kick them off the board. I can also keep track of the email address they use, so certain people can't try to resubscribe. Rubysue, I'll make the announcement here when that goes live (certainly before the end of the year, but hoepfully much sooner). I want to redesign the site a bit, add some new features and then have everything go live at once.
Of course, this board here at SFN may wind up precluding my own!

It won't keep *all* the cranks away, but it should make it more difficult for them to come and pitch their tents.
I'd love it if we could get through a week free of posts from clunkheads digging in their heels with "I'm right and everyone else is wrong", rather than actually debating their points of view intelligently.

Is there anything that we regular schmoes can do to help speed up the process? I for one would be happy to help before we lose any more regulars.

No, but thanks. I have to redesign the site somewhat, and get my new logo made, and and and. It's all stuff I have to take care of on my end, and I'll try to get it done ASAP. A lot of other pressures have eased off (like finally finishing my book, though there is now the rounds of editing, yikes) and I'll start some of the job up pretty soon, like next week. I have no idea when I'll finish it though. I still want to do a more thorough Moon hoax debunking, and the creationist pages need to get done too. On and on it goes... but anyway, thanks for the offer!

Thanks for your support, everyone. I probably will be rather invisible on the BABB in the future. I feel too strongly personally about the hoax situation to act in a manner that even approaches civility, so I would rather not participate in the discussions if I can't be assured of my own behavior. Certain topics can "trip my trigger" to be sure, but none in recent years has made me more angry then this one (and Piper's behavior is particularly aggravating).
Speaking of that, I am sitting here contemplating general human behavior in this early, early 21st century. I think the Internet has done a marvelous thing for all of us because of the instant availability of information and communication. However, there is a seamy underbelly of the Internet that is more and more disturbing: These forums offer almost every mouth-breathing introverted lunatic nitwit in the world (including myself) a way to express themselves in uncontrolled and atrociously primitive ways. The rudeness that I seem to be encountering more and more in my daily life from other drivers, clerks, receptionists, etc., can probably be tied to two things: 1) Television shows (especially sitcoms) that value the nasty zinger and putdown over any other form of two-way communication, and, 2) Internet forums on controversial topics, where you can blithely roast and flame other living, breathing human beings that you don't know and have never met over ludicrous differences of opinion or belief.
Manners are disappearing, impatience is increasing at exponential levels and sneering at others or denigrating them for their opinions and physical differences is reaching an all-time high. For instance: I sat behind some young, very attractive people at a ball game the other night and listened to them spend quite a bit of time making fun of a severely retarded young woman who walked down the aisle with her mother (and a doll in her arms). It made my blood boil to hear this and I probably would have crossed into "dangerous" territory if I had consumed more adult beverages.
It's a weird world we live in, one that is increasingly less "human", IMHO.

Was it my imagination or did JW finally answer TBA's 'challange'? I thought I saw it earlier, but wasn't in the mood to read it then. Later, when I had properly prepaired myself emotionally (lol) I went back to read it but now I can't find it.
Leave it to JW to answer the damn thing WAY down the durn thread list...

Fortunately, I haven't seen this happen in the 'real' world, or at least increase in recent years. Of course I live in a small Kansas town, so that may be my problem :)
Although I've been using this method of communicating for nearly 16 years now, before there was even an Internet, I'm still shocked at how rude people can be on the Internet. It's almost like they are solipsists and don't even realize there is a real, thinking, feeling, person at the other side of the computer. I try not to let it get to me, but sometimes I'm not successful.
I haven't seen this trend go into the real world yet, at least not any worse then it was before. I hope I never do, and I'm sorry to hear that it is your experience, Rubysue, that it has.
Of course that may be my downfall, I'm afraid if I were at that ballgame I would have said something, with or without alcohol simply because I'm not use to such behavior and would have been shocked. Okay, so I don't get out to the big city much :P
BTW I know exactly what it is too have a 'trigger' that makes you wonder if you can behave yourself. Hoagland does it to me. Makes me so steamed that can't hardly think or type straight. Although JW and Piper are rapidly approaching Hoagland status... Which is why I don't even click on their posts most times. I don't have that willpower when it comes to Hoagland's web page though, and my curiosity gets the better of me.

You know what? A few months ago I might have agreed with you, at least that rudeness was on the rise, though maybe not for the same reasons. You know what I did? I moved. ;-) Really, I'm not kidding. One reason I left the Right Coast was because of the casual rudeness of the people there in and around Our Nation's Capitol. Out here in wacky California now, people are friendly and polite, for the most part. Much better than in DC. I like it here!
