Is there anything that we regular schmoes can do to help speed up the process?

No, but thanks. I have to redesign the site somewhat, and get my new logo made, and and and. It's all stuff I have to take care of on my end, and I'll try to get it done ASAP. A lot of other pressures have eased off (like finally finishing my book, though there is now the rounds of editing, yikes) and I'll start some of the job up pretty soon, like next week. I have no idea when I'll finish it though. I still want to do a more thorough Moon hoax debunking, and the creationist pages need to get done too. On and on it goes... but anyway, thanks for the offer!

That's great news, Phil. I'm looking forward to the creationism pages. As for tonight's events, I had to cut my response to Piper short for an engagement in the real world. Sorry if I got out of hand, but the guy is a real pain and I just lost it and cut loose on him. I was still holding back a little when I had to leave, though.

I am hatching a little conspiracy of my own to deal with Piper's threatened return. This has to do with bringing over the notorious (on Yahoo anyway) "Orion gang." These are the founders of a Yahoo online club, http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/projectorion , devoted to promoting nuclear energy for spaceflight. You may or may not agree with their objective, but they have attracted some singularly intense and ill-mannered opposition during the year their Yahoo clubsite has been in existence. Their BB is said to have set a Yahoo record for abusive messages received in one day (over 600). Naturally, all this adversity has sharpened their flaming and counter-flaming skills to the gleaming microscopic edge of perfection.
There is even heavier artillery available if I can persuade the owner of a certain freethought website to visit BA and give us a demonstration of his truly awesome anti-troll and counter-flaming skills. He can crisp whole legions of fundy-trolls with a single line.

One reason I left the Right Coast was because of the casual rudeness of the people there

I can't stand the east coast because of that, and hate visiting it. I liked the politness of the west coasters, but FAR too many people there for me :) Give me the vast wasteland that is the middle of the country :)

I'm still amazed when I'm told by visitors here they can't believe how nice and polite everyone is. I still think deep down that's how everyone acts, and only when I visit big cities on the east coast am I reminded that it is not. I live in a military town and I've heard from many transplantees they are stunned to hear "Have a nice day" from people who actually mean it. On the east coast I stopped holding doors open for people (which is just habit here) because of the strange looks I got from people. Fine, you can open up your own doors :P

A huge number of military retirees retire here just because of the native friendliness and politeness.

Was it my imagination or did JW finally answer TBA's 'challange'? I thought I saw it earlier, but wasn't in the mood to read it then. Later, when I had
properly prepaired myself emotionally (lol) I went back to read it but now I can't find it.

Nevermind, Finally found it. It was almost at the bottom of the thread list. JW is a piece of work. http://www.badastronomy.com/wwwboard/messages/9202.html

What an infuriating non-answer. Quotes from social dawrinism 125 years ago... ARGH!!!

You were perhaps expecting a 'real' answer? From JW?

My guess is (and I have to guess; the only authors out of his list that I have experience with are Darwin, Draper, Sagan and Stanley) that JW has run into text that requires a scientific background to comprehend. Since it's beyond him, he interprets that as the author saying "that the general public should just shut up and listen to their socio-political and ideological interpretations of nature".

What a maroon.

Please don't call him that. It's an insult to Bugs Bunny and other maroons out there. I can think of something worse to call the piss-ant, but I don't want to get kicked off here just yet.

I was just wondering, now that Trish and @tomic both have over 500 posts and now have three stars under their names, what is the system to award stars to posters? I know for the first three it's New User, Skeptic Friend(after 50 posts), Skeptic Friend(after 100 posts, and Skeptic Friend[Staff?](after 500 posts).

So, what's the award system?

The way I see it, christians are godless too...they just don't know it yet.

Well, he'll be getting an answer. I'll get to it later today; it's his turn to wait. I'll move the thread up to the top so everyone can see it. ;-)

Does anybody here remember Johnno? He used to post over at BABB, but I just looked and I can't find any of his posts anywhere. I was gonna e-mail him and ask him to come here, just to see that there is a safe haven from about 98-99% of the wackos out there. And that we do have a place to rant and rave about BABB. Just wondering if anyone has his e-mail address, and if so, would you please ask him if he'd like to come here?

I just remembered; he did say that he was going to school somewhere.

::Sigh:: I lost my temper with Piper too. I've been reading the BA board long enough that I should know better. But when that asshole started insulting Rubysue, I swear the temperature in my computer room dropped to about zero K.
Did anyone see his non-answer to my "put up or shut up"? I was really hoping he'd name a name or two, but I guess maybe he is aware of the term "libel".
I would have posted more, but Ed could see how upset I was. He suggested a nice drive in the Black Hills, with a stop at one of our favorite pubs. (Actually, it's a biker bar, but doesn't "pub" sound better?)
I hate to see you stop posting on BA Rubysue. Some of your posts have been classics. Take your vacation and have fun, recharge. By the time you're back, maybe the trolls will have gotten bored and moved on for a while.

Internet BBS are interesting social models. The Halfbakery is one that seems to have an especially vigorous self-policing ethic, but then it's not a lightning-rod for nuts. One thing that helps is that the HB has a single moderator with full enforcement powers and a clear vision of what is appropriate on her board. BA, I'd encourage you to take a similarly strong line when you have the tools in place. In this context benevolent despotism can be a Good Thing!

I'll surf over to the BA board in a minnit and sign on. (Too many interests, too little time...)

Well after refusing to even acknowledge JW on the BABB, I've finnaly broke down and I'm slowly (or maybe not so slowly) getting in an argument and a flame war with him on the expanding of the universe... ugh.

Yes. He's still posting at the BBS at this site:

http://www.apollohoax.com/

Click on "Web Forum" in the drop down menu at the upper left. I think you can email him directly by clicking the mail button at the bottom of any of his posts.

I think he and the others there may have finally convinced the host, a 16 or 17 year old, that the Apollo missions were real, but I also see the host still has those stupid Jack White photos, and other similarly dumb arguments, on his picture pages.

Anyway, that whole topic is such a waste of bandwidth, I'm quite bored with it now.

Hey rubysue, if you're reading this, we'll see ya around at BA again, right? Come back after a good break though. I know that people just can't stay away for long. ;-)

Thanks, Torsten. I'll e-mail him in the morning.

And that host of Apollo Hoax? He should worry about his damn senior prom first.

You've more patience than I, Rift.

I made the conscious decision a while ago to refuse to post on any thread begun by a crank/troll, no matter how much they cry out for me to try to take them down a notch. Unless I have a TIA, you won't see me posting to Piper, JW, Spoq...and I really think twice (three times, four times, etc) before I respond to Comp_Org/Gauss/Patch.

Similarly, there are some folders on this board in which I will not post. I just don't have the patience.

Praise be to @tomic! The fervent prayers of many wackos have gone unanswered. SFN is back online as a forum for tormenting their existence from now till the end of time (with any luck anyway).
I want to thank everyone who signed on at my temporary SFN Fallout Shelter at Yahoo and apologize to those I missed with the invitations. I had to cull the names from the BA board.

Well, I some how survived reading the BABB without having this saftey valve. I did stay away from certain posters and I do have this urge to smack John Kierien upside the head with an organic chemistry book...
