Gee, I remember what it was like to be 21. Okay, I'm lying, that was a half lifetime ago.
I was hoping to steer the topic either back to bad astronomy: Does SAMU need meds?
Or plain old astronomy: How's everyone's weather outlook for this weekend? I'll be headed outside about midnight (MST), and it doesn't look too bad for my area.

SAMU needs an education! Ok maybe meds would be a good idea too. Damn, I like learning about something and he has to be a smartass!

Yeah, but I'm learning enough that I'm starting to anticipate the answers.
Hey, BA!! If you're out there, some of us are really learning from this thread. Don't lock it down.

She is not in the NEJM. She alleges that looking at hooters for 10 minutes is equivalent to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise. The NEJM states that 30 minutes of aerobic exercise decreases cardiac risk factors by ultimately lowering blood pressure.

http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/343/19/1409?

Here is a link to an associated article assigning cardiac risk factors to blood pressure.http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/345/18/1291?

Long way to go to connect this "research" to science. There is no coroborating statement of the equivalance of sexual arousal to aerobic exercise.

Maybe I'm just forgetting what it was like to be a teenager, but I can't quite accept the idea that just looking at hooters would produce the equivalent effect of a 30-minute workout. It certainly doesn't anymore, although I'm willing to put the question to an experimental test.

Now, I do remember that looking at hooters did occasionally lead to other activities that were a lot closer to aerobic exercise...

Um, somebody remind me... how is this related to Bad Astronomy again?

Speaking of SAMU, I wish the guy would learn how to spell "equilibrium" and "temperature". It's not just an occasional typo, he misspells them consistently. At best, it's annoying, and at worst it makes him look ignorant. I suppose I could hardly expect anything better, though, considering.

(I thought about posting a more diplomatically-worded version of this over there, but I decided it was too ad hominem. Thank goodness for the BABitchB forum!)

Now look, I've gone and raised my equalibrium tempreture!

Hey Valiant Dancer,
Just read your post on HBs over at BA. "scrape...scrape...snort". ROTFLMAO!!!!
Now that you've covered the moon-hoaxers, what about the face on Mars folks? What substances to we have to consume to buy into that one? I know beer doesn't help, when I'm laughing that hard, it makes for more trips to the bathroom.

To get into that, I'd have to get a persecution complex coupled with a 45 cube per day LSD habit.

With HB'rs like SAMU et al, I think it's all eventually love of conspiracy driven, rather than them fancying themselves skeptics.

This could lead to some goofy contradictions. i.e. They don't believe Apollo 13 landed on the moon, but the Face on Mars is real, or better yet, they don't want to understand how the moon landings could be real, but some of them do believe that secret astronaut missions to Mars with the help of aliens did happen. (Though help of aliens seems to be more of a Piper thing than a SAMU thing.) I think as long as there's a conspiracy somewhere, they'll buy it.

I was exhausted trying to offer explanations to Paul M on the old BB, and haven't participated in the SAMU runaround this time. At least not yet.

Y'all remeber the st that hit the fan when Falwell commented on the attacks, right? Well, Dubya's right hand-man to Xian's everywhere, Franklin Graham, son of that ever popular Billy Graham, made almost as big a slip of the tongue last month. Check it out here: Franklin Graham sticks foot in mouth at wrong time. (So what else is new?)

Good link, James... but why put it here in the BA Bitch Board? Maybe better suited to the Religion or Politics fora, methinks.
